There are many species of Asiatic parrots that are kept and bred: Alexandrine, Derbyan, Malabar, Moustached, Plum headed, Ringnecked, Blossom headed Parrot and Slaty headed parrots.
They are exceptionally hardy birds. Housing them in a steel framed aviary with a fully covered roof is preferable as they are usually heavy chewers on timbers & wire mesh. A single pair per aviary is recommended. These birds can be noisy and may annoy neighbours.
The basic recommended dietry requirements are 2 parts grey sunflower, 1 part oats, 1 part small seed mix comprising 50% canary seed & 50% Panicum and millet. Corn on the cob, some fruits and some vegetables.
