Aviary owners warned to be on their guard 17th Dec 2007
Crooks strike three times in one weekend Aviary owners are being warned to be on their guard after three raids over the weekend in which birds were taken.
Police are not disclosing the exact locations where thieves struck but one happened in Luton and two in rural areas around Luton and Dunstable.
All the raids happened between Friday night and Sunday morning after the bird burglars got into rear gardens.
Among the birds taken were more than 40 Australian gouldian finches which have yellow stomachs, purple breasts and green backs. Also taken were 30 budgies, 12 canaries, two linnets and other birds.
Police want enthusiasts to be aware of the incidents so they can take appropriate security measures.
Officers also want owners to contact them if they are offered birds in suspicious circumstances.
Anyone with information can contact police, in confidence on 01234 841212, or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
