hello everyone i got a new budgie today, ive called him lemon and he/she is great. Im glad i bought him because i think he was starving, not purposefully by the shop but he was with 14 more budgies and when he arrived home just ate and ate. anyway hes not a good flyer at all and i think thats because his wing feathers are a bit tatty but i think after his next malt he should cear up a lot. hes very tame already because he cant fly(i think) but he does seem very calm towards me. so here he/she is.

Awww he/she looks really sweet I think with that many birds in the cage Lemon would have a bit of a battle getting to the food - glad to here he's making up for lost time though ;D Thanks for sharing and I'll look forward to updates

Its very weird to have a new budgie, when i got him home he would just sit on my knee and eat which i think was because he was just so hungry. but he seems to sit on my finger already, but just not for very long yet. Any advise on how long to keep lemon seperate from kiki and bobby? Kiki seems to like him a lot but bobbys not too impressed, but thats only first impressions and they have only been out with each other for about 15 mins as i didnt want them to fight or anything.

I thinks it's just a case of getting used to each other, they will soon learn to keep away from each other and realise it's far more interesting to explore than it is to fight. Just keep an eye on them as you are doing for the time being

when lemon is sat on a perch his/her legs are always really far apart and his/her claws are bent outwards not straight down. could someone give me advice to why it could do this or is it just a case of been born like this, and is there anything i can do to prevent it? t makes him/her look really cute but if i need to do something for the health of the bird than i would try my best.
ill try get a photo to show wht i mean.

It almost sounds as though the baby had splay leg, I had a lovebird with splay leg, that I had gotten from a breeder...its caused from lack of nutrition & or a slippery surface as babies..
my baby lovie that I had experienced this with( his feet were a disaster! the nails or toes I should say, grew backwards) so I took a few drops of olive oil inbetween my finger tips at that point began massaging his toes & they got better, his bowlegged problem (which was very bad! he actually had a leg infront & one inback) thats how bad he was...I made a brace for his legs & now he is great..but I did have to up everything, his vegies, fruits, vitamins & calcium..
how old is the budgie?? if it is young, I would try it, it may benefit the little guy.

Some birds are just lazy and sit that way - I tend to slouch in my chair while others around sit straight. She's only young and once she's got more confidence and strength through flying around she'll be fine. No need to worry even if she does have some slight leg splay. Any attempt to correct it at her age would lead to disaster and very expensive vet bills. Her leg bones would have "set" by now and the vet would need to (possibly) break her legs and set them into birdie leg casts. I'd personally leave her be.
Laurie, the treatment you recommend is great - but really needs to be done while the bird is still in the nest otherwise veterinary intervention is needed.
