He looks very cheeky that boy, handsome too. Are grays particularly neurotic? I mean when introducing new things/items/toys/people do you have to go slowly? I've read on some forums people with them say they almost have a heart attack when introducing a new toy etc to them, even new people can really startle them. Sudden movements are a big nono. I have no clue about grays (but interested to learn) so I can only go by what I'm told.

I have to introduce new toys to him gradually. First I leave it close to his cage for a couple of days. Then I put it in the corner away from his favorite perch and food dishes. When I notices wood pieces on the floor of his cage I know he has finally accepted it and I move it closer to his perch. The funniest thing is when I take his rope perch out and wash it. If it's clean he thinks it's something new and evil and it takes about half a day before he'll go on it. Grey's especially Congo's are very sensitive.

Must be weird living with a bird you have to be so careful with - or I guess you are so used to his ways your behaviour adjustment is probably second nature. I know as much as I like the look of the grays I wouldn't have the patience of dealing with one and applaud people who do have them especially when the bird is so well adjusted - just proves you know what you are doing. I love the budgies with new toys - it's evil stay away until 1 is brave enough to touch it and when it doesn't drop dead from the toy the rest think it's a great toy

Very handsome fellow! Grays just have this expression of intelligence... I can't really explain it, but it draws me in. I've read that they were prone to nervousness, but it is good to hear about them firsthand. I'm going through an parrot species "crash course" right now and trying to learn more about different types of parrots. Like Karen said, the budgies are so funny to watch. Even if the first contact is an accident, that is usually all it takes.

It's really simple. pumpkin, whole wheat noodles and cinnamon I usually give them veggie noodles so I'll substitute. I'll post the amounts on the recipe page after my guys give it the thumbs up ;D

a member on another forum puts cinnamon in her birdie cook p all the time. Ive always done a mix once a week, but since i discovered they loved sweet potato, its great as a base.
This week, mine was I sweet potato 3 grain wild rice I small pack of fruit museli, which has blackberries, cranberries, raspberries, sultanas and raisins in Baby Apple puree Mixed nuts, blended, but crunchy and some shelled, mixed seeds, small amount of seeded wholemeal flour and always some calcivet.

This is just a guess but I would say about 18+ We were told that they would go back 3 previous homes to make him at least 12, we have had him for 6 years. He could be older and it took 5 of those 6 years for him to finally figure out he's home and he's safe.
