Is it possible for Conures to mimic other bird sounds and songs and just in general mimic sounds they hear aside from speech?
I had my dad's dogs over watching them from the time that I bought Jo-Jo on Friday and my dad's dogs left yesterday afternoon. I had Jo-Jo outside sitting on the patio table during the day because it was so nice and warm outside. While she was out there, I kept hearing her make these whining sounds just like my dad's dachshund makes when he is left in the crate. Jo-Jo was in the living room with them for 4 days while the dogs were crated and we were gone for certain times of the day.
Is it possible that Jo-Jo already picked up that whining sound that Oscar makes?, It sure sounds like it, and she was also appeared to be making the sounds of the birds outside and able to mimic their songs or at least trying to?
Is this possible with a Conure??
Michelle-- For the record, It's 1 Green Cheek Conure Jo-Jo, 2 Zebra Finches, 2 Long haired mini Dachshunds Heidi and Princess, 1 cat Smokey, 1 big fish tank, and 2 Hamsters.
The experts should be along to confirm - but I believe if birds have the ability to talk then they have the ability to mimic.... as I know conures can talk I'm pretty sure Jo Jo is mimicing your Dad's dogs - bless how cute! ;D
My little fella makes different sounds, but the only thing i have not heard as yet is him whistling. Now he has a mate nearby that constantly whistles, so he should have picked something up by now, perhaps they dont whistle..
our greencheek mimics a cough - if he hears a cough or wants attention he starts coughing! its funny as, and tries to mimic the sound of running water. He's not much of a talker but he tries and can say a few things
