It's been a bit of a few days for me - we lost Sprite on Sunday as you all know. Yesterday I had someone from work come up to me and ask if I was 'the lady with lots of birds' Turns out he bought what he told me was a cockatiel and had basically got fed up with it after only 2 months, he's loud, I don't have the time etc etc blah blah Anyway he offered the tiel and cage to me in return for a good knowledgeable home, I thought the bird would be easy to re-home and went over to have a looksie at the cockatiel. Astonished at what I found when I got there I brought the bird and cage home with me.... this is what they thought was a cockatiel.... I promise you I'm not punching him in this picture, though it looks like it - I'm making a fist so it's harder for him to bite me Sooo..... he/she is 5 months old, a turquoise cheekie? Very nippy but playful too, will step up after taking several bites out of you. No name as yet.... I'm gonna be needing plenty of advice with this little nipper though!

A tiel, huh? Right... Works pretty well for you, he's very cute! Good luck with him. Seems there is a Cheeky population explosion on the boards... everyone is getting them!

This little conure was hand reared but hasn't been handled at all by the bloke at work, so I've got a bit of work to do taming it up again. He was going to dump it outside a local Blue Cross Then someone he works with mentioned me. I haven't had a conure before Sarah, though I do have a brown headed parrot. That said - I'm sure I'll be on here alot asking you all advice lol Shelly - I couldn't believe it when I turned up to look at the bird. I thought EVERYONE knew what a tiel looks like

Hahahahahahaaaaa!! He/she's cute!! If you work out how to tame it, let me know, I'm having a right old time of it trying to teach Ivy to step up. She'll only come near me if she's on my head now. Little bugger!

I can't believe someone actually sold him this little baby either It's all about the money with some breeders obviously Well I've started working with him/her and I can tell he'll be worth the effort. Am I keeping him? I guess he'll be staying Yeah, yeah I know - total sucker for a sob story

Just can't walk away without them can you!! I've had to move Spunky into Caitlin's room to make room for new birdie, which Caitlin thinks is excellent ;D I think it might be good for Spunky too, a little one on one. Caitlin has the patience of a saint and will sit there reading to Spunky for hours

Good luck with the taming Debbie. You'll need to expect lots of nips at first from a conure but he should get used to you fairly quickly. Btw conures are nothing like brownheads in personality! Be careful the conure doesn't attack Meg as they are known for attacking other birds especially when they want attention!! You never know they may be opposite sexes then it might work reasonably well. Conures are total extroverts and love to play with you and be with you when you are doing jobs in the house. They also love bathing and should have a shallow saucer for that purpose, although given the chance he will probably dive in the bathwater or washing up bowl

Thanks for all your kind comments all ;D Laurie if we lived close this little one would have landed straight on your doorstep after I'd picked him up Mue - he is definately all you described, my hands are evidence to the nipping That said - he is learning extremely quickly and I'm being nipped less and less. He eats everything I give him so thats a comfort too. He's also clipped so thats to my advantage also He's very different from Meg that's for sure, after all that nipping and firm handling I get Meg out for cuddles and it's just lovely, they kind of compliment each other for me. They won't be meeting though, if Meg were attacked I hate to think of the damage she'd do back, it's just not worth it
