I think I mentioned somewhere else that Berty had a stroke/Embolism (vet can't make his mind up!) in July 08. My avatar shows her pre-July. She can't stand anymore, sits on her bot' but has made GREAT progress, slowly and constantly It's a long story but in a nutshell....... She's gone from total collapse, then shuffling using her beak for support, to shuffling upright She has used her foot to hold food 3 times in the last month but can only do it for about 40 secs then drops it, but this IS progress . Her grip is good, believe me!! And no prob's if she's on her back she grips my finger and I pull gently she's ok with it!?! Her lil' ole legs come out Vet told me to do that with her for exercise, Berty's happy with that, so I am too. She can climb around her cage, no probs now!! ;D She can get on off perches/hands, but is slow and carefull, bless her If she's on the floor she shuffles REAL fast!!! Bot on ground Can still chase the cats lol It's a long........slow...... progress but she's getting there I just want to know if there is anything else I can do??? Re Physiotherapy!?!?!? I have pics of her as she is now if that helps? I adore her, there's just no other word to describe how I feel about her

She sounds like she's making a good recovery Kim Only bit of advise I can give is - we need to meet up sooner rather than later LOL I'm a qualified Aromatherapist, if you go through her limits and needs with me then I'm sure I could come up with a regular massage/physio routine for you to do to her daily/weekly or however much she needs the particular massage/physio. I would really love to help out here too as it would be a learning curve for me ;D Pics would also be good

I will do some research into animal treatment by aromatherapy, I'm pretty sure you can use most of the regular oils and that they just need diluting alot more, I'm going to enjoy researching this - I'd never thought of massaging the birds before. Funny really as I used to massage Caitlin after bedtime every day when she was a baby, she was the HAPPIEST baby in the world lol

LOL @ Mr Sharpy She's absolutely gorgeous Back to topic lol..... Will she let you do anything with her Kim? She might not take to me but we can still make it work if I can tell you what to do. Have you felt her legs at all? Does the muscle mass seem small? Is she flying still? Or is she too ginger to try? Do you know what makes her stoop, has the vet told you or is he stumped? There are some invigorating oils we could try without massage, they would stimulate muscle and the tingle (I promise it only tingles and doesn't hurt) can prompt people into using the limbs more, even if it's just the odd quick shake or stretch. Oh I have so much to ask but I'll let you answer these questions first - you couldn't just pop over for an hour with her could you? lol

Deb, she has lost wieght! She should weigh between 240 and 310. She lost a load weight and then picked up then dipped again? Still in the dip, gained 4grms at last weeks visit to GRUMPY vet but only weighs 224!!! I'm feeding her rice, pasta, potato anything starchy (on top of her norm' veg, fruit etc) as recomended by grumpy vet. Needless to say, her muscle mass is lacking! She lets me feel her all over but she does have limits, she's fine with what ever I want to do after her morning nap, afternoon nap and when I put her to bed Thanks for this deb xx Scully, thanks for the crossed fingers

Oh bless, that kind of weight loss must worry you no end Have you tried her on any meat? Chicken would be a good start, she needs protein not starch, not that I'm doubting the vet, he's the professional not me I've had a fair bit of experience with the elderly that have had strokes or seizures of some sort and the docs have always put them on a protein rich diet, omega3 too. It won't do her any harm in small portions Kim, try her on some boiled egg with shells crushed in too. If it was a stroke then her brain needs nourishment as much as her body and you can do that with her diet. I'll do alot of research tomorrow to see what else I can find to help 'fix' her brain, nothing I've suggested will do her any harm in small amounts so you can try her on anything you'd like to start with. OH Deb forgot to say she doesn't fly! She must have been badly clipped years ago cos she can't even flutter to the floor She's too scared to try, she drops like a stone They haven't invented enough swear words to describe how I feel about that!

I am so sorry to hear your having to deal with this at all, that gorgeous baby wouldnt have probably florished as far as she has without your love & dedication to her!! Your so lucky to have Debbie so close to you too im jealous lol she will work miracles im sure..my fingers, eyes & toes are crossed for a full recovery & I hope KARMA bites the idiot in the backside that chopped her wings so short as to do lasting & permanent harm why cant people allow their babies to become expert fliers before they trim wings? I just dont get it they have so much fun flying as youngsters, thats when you develope the best relationship with your baby is when your teaching them to come to you in flight..

A good source of protein is whey powder, you can add it too her food. I'd suggest trying her in the bathtub to help with gaining confidence to use her wings to flap to stay afloat and when you put only a couple inches in the bottom, the water will help keep her bouyant and she should try to move along. Water therapy works wonders for humans with physio and I had a budgie that I did physio on her as a baby and she managed to walk almost normally.

I've tried her with chicken 3 times, now at least she's nibbling it and chucking it will persevere lol Boiled egg? just ate the shell.......not a bad thing As for omega3, she LOVES flax seed and walnuts WOOHOO!! Thanks Deb ;D Oh! I tried her with a chicken leg bone, she ignored it (she can't hold anything for long) so I'm thinking can I break it in half for her?? so she gets a taste of the marrow is that ok to do? Karen, I still haven't found any Whey powder, no one seems to have where I am, will keep looking Tried the water therapy and she just sat in it! I will keep trying but I think her legs are too week at moment for her to feel safe Laurie, I REALLY hope the KARMA hit the right spot! I'd like to meet the **** and show him/her/IT the result!!!! SO CRUEL

Dont want to take your post, but this last week im having a simular problem with one of my Kaks. Sunday before last Si, was flappng on the floor, so obviously i bought him indoors. I have no idea really what has happened, but this week i have been feeding him allsorts to give him lots of extra goodness. Hes in a smallish cage so he wont hurt himself, and making great progress. Its like hes had a stroke, and has gone from doing flapping around with a frenzy on the floor when i get him out, to now calm and perching. Hes doing pretty good trying to fly, and can get off the ground now. I went and bought some baby food, and mixing it with egg food, and this soup mix i cook for my birds. He seems to be enjoying that, and its full of goodness for him. Hes also having cranberry juice, for extra vit c.
If he continues like this im sure he will make a good recovery, im wondering if hes eaten something, like a fallen leaf from one of the trees outside my garden.
