We've had some really bad news about our wonderful little dog, Bob, today. He's been very poorly over the weekend with really bad sickness and passing blood from the other end. We thought that we were through the worst of this on Tuesday as he seemed to be settling down well, but on Wednesday evening his tummy swelled up to huge proportions. We consulted with the vets that night and they advised monitoring him until morning, and to take him in if he became lethargic or the swelling increased further.
Well we went into the vets today and after a few checks and some expressed bloodwork they have found out that he has a liver problem.
I'm so scared for him as he went through a very similar thing about 2 years ago - it caused him to have a serious of very nasty fits that almost looked like strokes and he had to go through a battery of tests. At the end of it all they never did manage to find out the cause of it, and he seemed to have got over it.
Sadly it looks to be back and worse than before. At the moment he's really lively and to look at him you honestly wouldn't know that there's too much wrong (apart from his little pot belly of course!). Our vet has always been wonderful with him, and is making an urgent appointment with a specialist for us to see if we can get to the bottom of all this once and for all.
I really can't believe that this is happening to him again - he's honestly the kindest, sweetest most loyal little dog in the world (and that's not just because I'm biased) - he just doesn't deserve to be going through this.
I'm sorry to waffle on guys, but we would be so grateful if you could spare a few positive thoughts for our little man, as he really is at the heart of our family, and the thought of anything happening to him is just unbearable.
