Hey all am a noobie to the group, so i am hoping i got the right board. Was just hoping that you could give me some advice on my bird. A while back me and my wife bought this bird from a local pet shop and then found out that she was ilegally sold to us. She was in an avairy before she was sold to us but had to be removed due to being picked on. Ever since we have had her she has been feather plucking and is really shy does anyone have any advice for me to help me and my bird get on better? Me and my wife do like to let her fly around as much as possible and that seems to be helping her a little. Could someone please confirm to us that we do indeed have a crimson rosella because we are not sure? What we basically would like to know is what should we be feeding her. ATM we are feeding her on fruit and parrot mix. Here is a link to a pic of our bird. img27.imageshack.us/img27/681/114aey.th.jpg

Is indeed a crimson rosella. Seed mix should ideally be a small parrot mix/cockatiel mix. My rosella's love corn, silverbeet, spinach, celery, carrot, apple, occasional grape and a plant out of our garden we don't know the name of. Also loves Aloe Vera plant. Rosella's are not known for being a companion bird. I've not ever known anyone to successfully tame one. Even handraised rosella's become feral rather quickly. There are always exceptions with any bird, hopefully you'd get lucky. You may (stress MAY) have additional luck if you clip her wings to make her dependent on you. I'd suggest giving the bird a spray with a bird and mite spray - might have picked some up from other birds in the store.
