I've had my female Rosella for 1 year now and she is very sweet, but quite alone! It took me 4 years to find a Rosella and finally be able to get one, of course without knowing much about them. I didn't realize that they don't get along with other species of birds and are very snippy to each other as well and belong in large aviaries, from what i've read on the internet.
Anyways, my female was hand raised and is super sweet, but she is not a conure or parakeet that will sit with me. Usually she hangs out near my African Grey's cage while she is out on supervised free flight time. Of course after a few hours of free flight time its quite exhausting trying to catch her and put her back in her cage. I've tried looking for a male Rosella to keep her company when i'm not home, but no luck. I'm considering clipping her wings so it'd be easier for me to catch her and supervise her better, she'd sit near me or on my shoulder when i'm home most of the day. As I do have 3 cats as well, but they have never ever tried to get her or any of my other birds. However I won't trust them ever. Its natural instinct for them. I've never had a bird with clipped wings, since i love the way the fly around my home, it seems more natural to them.
What do you think? Should I clip her wings for her safety, plus i'd be her companion more so than ever since it's a struggle finding Rosellas in Seattle, Washington, USA.
