i'm new to this forum but not new to birds. i used to own 3 cockatiels. im planning on getting a blue & gold macaw next year (after i save up for it) & had a few q's. 1) how old can a young bird be when your able to sex it? 2) how do you stop a bird from biting while handling? when my cockatiels bit i'd drop my hand sharply an inch or so. that always stopped them but what do you do with a macaw thats biting? i'm asking these q's now so im prepared for when i do get my macaw. are there any bird breeders in south carolina? thanks

Welcome to the forums! Been a bit slow around here lately, if you couldn't tell. As for biting birds, I always use the laddering techinique when my conure is misbehaving. I repeatedly say "Step up!", placing one finger in front of the other and making him step onto my finger each time. That usually calms him down a bit and gets his mind off of whatever was making him ornery.
