Does anyone know how to color wooden objects with food dye? What I am trying to get at is, when you color eggs for easter you use vinegar and food dye. Do you use a combination like that to actually dye the wood or do you just start painting away with a brush and a tiny ass jar of food dye. Thanks for all that can send help my way!

I've never actually done it myself, but I'm thinking that soaking the wood underwater in food dye and water (not sure about the vinegar, but it probably wouldn't hurt ) would be your best bet. If you just paint it on, if it gets gnawed at all, it won't stay, and it may just fleck off. The dye would be more concentrated that way too. With any kind of hand coloring, you'll probably have some issues with the color leaking out and getting on things. Are you planning on making some new bird toys?

just got this off google for oyu hope this helps, and good on you for making their toys from scratch, that must be great
Start by adding 1/2 cup of water to each of the four containers. Then, in each one, place 30 - 45 drops of food coloring, so that the dye is very dark.
