Okay so Dr. Tucker called and gave me the results.
His liver and kidneys are fine. BUT, his blood sugar is WAY off the charts. I will need to change his diet completely because nectar is not too good as far as lowering his sugar intake. I'm waiting for Dr. Tucker to call me back on different diet solutions for him. What I'm thinking is mixing the nectar with more water. Right now I do 4 or 5 to 1 and maybe I should double the water to dilute it more but I'll have to wait until he calls back to see. Then after the diet change he'll need to be rechecked to see where the blood sugars are at. Hopefully we can fix him without insulin.

It's like he never runs out of energy. He was so tired after but he kept this up for about 1/2 an hour. Every few minutes he would stop, hop over to his bowl of nectar, take a few sips...guess to recharge his batteries.. and then off again. He doesn't get too high but I definitely have to get those wings trimmed up soon. With all that exercise it will be no time at all before he's flighted again. Gotta charge my camera batteries and try and get some more good shots. ;D

I guess if you suffer from migraines it's probably not a good idea to get a cockatoo.
I'm told that I'm very lucky with Pete because he does mind when I tell him. I've heard some real horror stories about toos. They are pretty cuddly but some can also be very aggressive.

I really liked reading about Pete! That's one amazing Umbrella Cockatoo... Does he like to screech? I was at a pet store one time (like that's uncommon) and there was an Umbrella Cocktoo. He/she LOVED to screech at all of the passersby. As far as screeching he really only does that if he's upset. I think if he were caged up in a pet store with all those people looking at him he would definitely be VERY upset. During the course of the day I may hear him yell out once maybe twice if he's startled but when I go to him and ask him what's wrong he stops. Most times he's mad because a fly got in their room and I have to hunt it down for him or a toy may have fallen because he chew through the leather or rope and I have to remove it. Other than that he can yell pretty loud when he's playing but I know it's a happy noise so it doesn't bother me in the least. I can put him and Jimmy in the play tree either in the basement or out in the avairy and I hardly hear a peep out him. Guess he's just got too much to do.

I finally got an appointment set for the blood work. Dr. Tucker is going to be doing bird checkups at the breeders on wednesday and that is closer to me so we will meet him there. Hopefully he'll get results from this. His concern is the liver.

Hillarious! Your guys are so beautiful and fun loving, you've done a splendid job with them. Thank you so much, you don't know how much that means to me when I hear things like this. I try my best and I don't give up on them. Guess I'm more stubborn than they are
