Hi, As you may or may not know I have aquired a goldfinch, it shouldn't be permanent but who knows how long he/she'll be here! So I will have lots of questions Is a cage with below dimensions okay for a bird that cannot fly properly, He/she's learning to hop/bounce rather well though! Width: 70cm (27.5in) Depth: 44cm (17.3in) Height: 70cm (27.5in) Its actually (if you are in the UK) called a Critter 2, its made for rats/chins but its bigger than some bird cages I have seen. The only big downside is that I need to lift it off to get to the base, but like I said this is temporary, I am trying to find the birds real home or another suitable home. Kat xx

Hmm, never considered using a Critter cage for birds...I assume you've taken all the levels out?

Yes I have, I tried to arrange it so it doesn't have to drop to them bottom to get down, It only seems to go tot the top overnight but thats probably because its a bit empty up there...
I am not certain it can't get out through the bars, I hasn't tried to, but the top and one side of the cage is covered as it seems to panic when given all 4 sides to see out of, it still has daylight and it opposite the window so it can 'see' out and not be in darkness. I am waffling now, I just want to do things right...

I know what you mean...1 worry with that type of cage is it getting its head/foot through 1 of the squares and getting stuck, struggling and...well, you know the rest! They certainly are huge cages for birds though!

It might be panicky because it could be used to being in an aviary maybe? How is his wing now - was it broken?

Thanks for the replies - Its wing is (now I am told) could be a humerus fracture, which isn't fixable, but the bird may be able to semi-fly eventually I hope! My uncle has a tiel with the same injury, the tiel can get about fairly normal its just very clumsy and tires easily.
