This is one thing that really confuses me, how am I meant to play with my birds? The budgies aren't interested in playing with me, and the cockatiel well other than he drops things off the table and I fetch, I don't know what to do with him to spend quality time when I'm not busy doing something else and he's just sitting on my shoulder...

Well, playing might be the wrong word. My lorikeet 'allows' me to hold a piece of fruit for her to eat. My tiel likes to hide in my hair and rub her cheek on mine. I consider it 'playing' when I am interacting with them on their terms. Whatever that is, picking up toys, chatting, closing eyes (I close my eyes, then open them, they close their eyes). I'm sure there a heap of suggestions from the other members

Well, he seems to enjoy grooming my face... not sure what he does, he just runs his beak over my face.

Sounds to me like a bonding thing, as I can imagine that is something they would do to another bird. I will rub my nose on my tiels beak, kind of like an eskimo kiss, and she seems to enjoy that as well. I just do whatever the bird feels comfortable with, and interact as much as they feel comfortable with.

It depends on the bird, really. A lot of them LOVE to play fetch. They drop something and you pick it up! LOL. Pika (cockatiel) and I play a whistle game now but he's the one who came up with it. He does the first note of the wolf whistle and I finish it with the second note. Or I do the first and he does the second. He gets so excited!! You can teach them peek a boo too. Put a cover over one side of the cage, pull it back and say peek a boo! Repeat, and watch your bird either quiver with delight or stare at you like you've lost your mind. Piper (budgie) loves to playfight like a litte kitten. She'll chase after my fingers and nibble them when she catches up. Then my hand "attacks" her. Of course, this could easily freak out a bird so I've always let her initiate that sort of play.

Ami likes to hide in the hood of my sweatshirts and seems to enjoy tickling the back of my neck.
Libbi and Peati tend to entertain themselves, they jump off of me to go investigate that weird creature in the cage next to them...

Boris loves to nibble the tiny hairs above my lip & make me laugh, when she succeeds in making me laugh she tries to put her head in my mouth and attack my teeth. Boris also 'wrestles' with my fingers whereby she jumps on them and lightly bites them until they do a light 'bucking' and she hangs on flapping her wings and nipping my fingers. When it's time for her to go into her cage she plays chasey with me where she runs under the stands' pole when I try to get her or flys round the room if I use both hands. We also play fetch where she throws her toys off the top of the cage & I fetch them - that's her favourite game.
Funny Birds!!
