Hey, I am planning on building a new aviary this summer, and when I do, I will have the old 8 foot square one open. I was considering getting a pair of cockatiels. How heat sensitive are they? I can't have them indoors, so they have to be able to take the heat. I could make a shelter box for them during the winter. Also, how loud would they be? And would they tear apart the aviary? It has a concrete wall around the bottom, and the 1/2 inch square wire netting with 2x4's for support. One more question....bear with me. Would walking in to take care of them be a problem? I've heard that tiels can become very possesive of their cage and accessories, and I can't have them attacking me for coming into their territory. If you can answer some of my questions I will be very grateful!

Heat is a problem for all with birds, when Cockatiels get hot, they spread there wings out to cool down and like mine sit in the lower part of the avairy. Also when it's hot adding ice cubes in the water bowls ,l find helps. Make sure you have a shaded area in your avairy also for direct sun in heat is not good. You will find they will go and sit in the shaded area all day sometimes and sleep there every night..Hot or cold they need a shaded area in an avairy to get away from the weather..and for peace and quiet.. Also in my year's with tiels, l have never had them attack me either, they just move away enough to let me do what l need to..they are great to have in an avairy and watch them fly and act.. I will send some pics of my avairy this weekend so you get and idea also
