I am completely new to this forum....having had small birds in the past (budgies and lovebirds) I have now inherited a male singer canary. He appears healthy but has gone into a molt (2 weeks) after his move to our home. I need to move him into a new (big) cage within a few days. The cage will be in the same room but different location. I would like some advice regarding minimizing the additional stress of capturing him and making yet another transfer. Thank you Administrators and forum members for any help you can give me.

Hi and welcome to the forum clowne, it's lovely to have you here Is it possible for you to put the cages together door to door (both doors open) then coax him into the new cage with some gentle movement? I suggest you cover him up until he's used to his new cage too, it calms them down quicker

Hi Kiwi, Thanks for your speedy reply. I had the same thought (i.e. to put the two cages together)...it might take some creative thinking as they are totally different but it seems that might eliminate some of the stress and help him into his new (bigger home).
I have one additional question...have other people had positive experiences introducing birdie tents or perch tents to their canaries? I have never used one before but would like to try.
Thanks for any input

G'day Clowne, welcome I had exactly the same idea as Kiwi so she's given good info there. I've only had the one canary but found he was a curious creature and not afraid of anything for long. Can't see that it'd hurt to try it.
