Hello everyone....I just joined and I am sure I will enjoy this great forum! Hubby and I are newly retired and really enjoying it. Now I have lots of time to enjoy my birds and I hope to increase the size of my fid family in the future. Right now I have 2 Owl finches....2 Lady Gouldian finches and just added a young Senegal parrot to my flock. They all keep me entertained and I enjoy having them in my life. My other passion is playing my Harps and Native American Flutes. My birdies love the sound of my Harp music but not so much the flute sound...lol. I volunteer playing my harp for sick and dying patients at a local hospital and I also play at the nursing home and for my church. I enjoy reading about everybody's birds and looking at all the photos too. If anybody else here has a Senegal I would love to compare notes! SkyFeather

Welcome to Bird Crazy! Sounds like you have a nice collection there. I've never seen any owl finches but I sure like the pic of them in your siggy. Please post pics of all your flock. We are picture addicts here.

Hey SkyFeather welcome to Bird Crazy! Newly retired... lucky duck! But I agree, sounds like a good time to add some fids! I've never had a senegal (I'm limited to finches and budgies) but I believe we have another member who either has or is getting a senegal. I've read about them before, and they sound like really interesting birds! It is also neat to have a fellow musician... I play cello, piano, and a bit of guitar. They're on hold right now due to a wrist problem, but I hope to return soon. Good to meet you! -Liz

Hi and welcome to the forum I don't have a senegal but I have a bird from the same family who is very similar - she's called Meg and she's a brown headed parrot who is silly silly tame and just 10 months old, you can find some pics in the parrot section Can't wait to see and hear about your fids - lucky you for having so much time with them now too ;D

Hi Skyfeather and welcome The birds in your sig look absolutely gorgeous. I have mainly Indian Ringnecks, but have 2 recent additions of Rainbow chicks, sooooo cute lol Well I don't have a musical bone in my body but my B/F does. He is a Solo musician and has supported a few bigish names here in Australia. Not sure if you have ever heard of them but Slim Dusty was quite popluar here as is Troy Cassar-Daly. Would love to hear your flute & harp, maybe you could provide a taste for us! Anyway hope you enjoy it here.

Thank you for the warm welcomes. #heart# Debra....I will try to post some pics soon! (My first name is Deborah ;D ) Budgiebuddy...Hellow fellow musician. I used to have budgies years ago and just loved their chatter. I have infected my Daughter (who is a small animal Veterinarian) with my love of birds. She started out with one budgie and now has 4...lol. Hubby says "like Mother...like Daughter--Bird Crazy!" Laurie...I am not to good on the NA Flutes yet. I have a Low D and an A flute. Someday I will be brave enough to play in front of people with them. Kiwi...I chose to get a Senegal because the Poicephalus species are supposed to be not as loud. So far Safara is pretty good be he is quickly becoming a Velcro Bird...hehe! Tasha....Ohhh....ringnecks....they are so unique looking! I have not heard of Slim Dusty but I will have to look him up on the Net!

G'day Skyfeather Welcome to Bird Crazy. you've got a lovely array of birds there. I had to think then when you said Owl Finches so googled them and we call them Double Bars in Oz. There is a large family of them in my area numbering about 300 - they are actually a pest, I had to put extra wiring on my cages to stop them stealing my birds' food! I love the sounds that finches make though, very sweet sounding. Your Gouldians are gorgeous! I had a couple pairs once and they never stood still, I loved watching their colours flashing around the aviary. Reckon Senegals are a beautiful bird but like so many parrots from that family they are very expensive in Australia. I sure hope you enjoy yourself here - we are a friendly bunch and pride ourselves on that too.

They bite the Double Barred - not that you can feel it lol! I used to use bird netting to protect my cages until the finches figured the smaller ones could squeeze through - lost count of the number of larger ones I had to rescue from the netting! That was when they'd bite, when I was removing them from the netting. I'd actually laugh! so I got rid of the netting and put extra wiring on instead.
