Hello, I just found your board from a Craigslist post. I just bought a Green Cheek Conure Friday. I already have 2 Zebra Finches that have had 2 successful clutches. Many years ago in High school and College I had 2 Cockatiels and a Blue fronted Amazon.
I also have 2 Dachshunds, 1 cat, fish and my daughter has hamsters.
I'm looking forward to learning more about Jo-Jo my Green cheek and getting her tame.
I have not worked with birds in a while, so I am re-learning everything again.

Thanks for the welcome. I just got in touch with the breeder, she happens to work at a vet down the street from the pet store I bought her at. The breeder said that Jo-Jo is about 18 months old. She is going to look for her hatch cert. to see exactly what her birthdate is for me. I will get some pics up soon. I am just starting with photography as a hobby and just bought a brand new advanced digital camera. I took some pics last night but she was in the cage and the bars come out in the pics and don't look too good. I will have to wait till I can get her out of the cage. She is not really tame yet, but not wild either, she was not a hand fed baby, but a parent fed baby, but she seems to be doing very well so far, I was able to pick her up in a washcloth to get her into the new cage I bought for her, but so far, she will not just come to my hand or let me really touch her yet. So I have some work to do with that in taming her. Hey Michelle! Welcome to the boards! Good luck with Jo-Jo! Most people I know with green cheeks got them younger and hand tame, and I don't know enough about them to give you tips, but others should be able to help you out. They are very cool birds though, lucky you! ;D I love doxies! Can't wait for some pics on those! Welcome again, my name is Liz, if you don't want to write out budgiebuddy.

Thanks again for more warm welcomes!! Laurie, if I get the dried fruit from the health food stores for people to eat, the natural organic stuff can I give that to Jo-Jo as well?? Or do I have to buy the stuff they have at the petstore? We buy a lot of stuff from the health food store and that would be the place I would look for the dried fruit. Oh, I will get some pics of my doxies up soon in the other pets section. I am really hoping I can get Jo-Jo hand tame, since she was bred in captivity I am keeping fingers crossed. The breeder is also a dog groomer at the vet and she said that Jo-Jo was one of her birds that was going to be a breeder bird. She had a pair, Jo-Jo's counterpart, but she decided to stop breeding so she sold Jo-Jo and the mate to the petstore 2 months ago. The other bird was bought on Thursday and I came along on Friday, so I don't know if I have the male or female. On a good note, Jo-Jo was in the breeders house for several months and was around lots of dogs and cats, and then went to a friend of the breeder for a few months before she went back to the breeder, and also lots of cats and dogs in that house as well. It was no wonder that she does not seem to be phased by the dogs and the cat at our house. I noticed the past few nights while sitting in the living room I would have her cage right next to me and she would move very close to me in the cage. I am keeping my movements slow with her and calling her name over and over. I'm thinking of taking her to the vet where the breeder works and have the vet clip her wings just this one time so I can work with her for a while. I used to clip my birds wings years ago, but I forgot how, and want to watch the vet do it again. I don't think I will clip them after she is tame. I stopped doing that with my cockatiels after a while, because they would just fly right to me on command. I can't wait to start working with Jo-Jo

Oh yes Organic is good, no sugar added , no preservatives! banana chips, apple chips, papaya, pineapple, apricots, raisins, coconut chunks! be patient, you just never know, I think once he starts wanting to taste your arm & backs of hands thats a very good sign..one day he may brave it & leap on you lol..last week my breeder pineapple split to cinnamon cock who is a brat! by the way!! lol he got loose & was out all night long covorting around the room he is one lucky lil feller that his toes didnt get nipped off! but when I walked in he flew straight for my head & started playing with my hair lol, I was waiting to lose at least a chunk of my ear lol, but he behaved! & 2 once the wings are clipped he will be more dependant upon you..they sense your love & patients, birds are so smart!!#heart#

G'day Michelle, Welcome to Bird Crazy Love what you're doing with JoJo - I always tell people with older or non hand raised birds the best way to start is with the cage near them & let them come to you. Well done! I trust you will enjoy yourself here, we are known as one of the friendliest bunch of nutters on the web. ;D
