Hi there. I'm new here and just signed up I don't have abird at the current moment but am hopefully in the makes of getting one. I haven't had a bird in the house since I was like 6 (i'm a teenager now) but I had 3 budgies then. I adored them. I had one fancy blue one and two white/blue females. The male I eventually tamed and he was so much fun. Unfortunetly they managed to get out of there outside aviary and I never got a bird since. Two summers ago I worked at Our wildlife recovery center. www.niwra.org/ It was amazing to get to learn about all the raptors and mammals. Today was the first day I volunteered at our World PArrot Refuge. worldparrotrefuge.org/index.phpit was the most amazing experience. The birds were so amazing and enjoyed everymintue of it. I adore the cockatoos, they are my favourite and I think the Macaws beauty is breath taking. My mom agrred and Ican have a bird!!!!!! Most likely we will get a cockatiel and I can't wait!!!!!! I know of a place that sells them really cheap. They seem veyr healthy, active and curious. They have a big cage and seem nice. The reason I don't want to buy from a big brand pet store is because I don't want to promote pirating. I know that Australia doesn't allow any export of any animals but cocktials from big stores come from breeders and the ones I'm looking at came from someones pet so.................................................... I'm also thinking about a parrotlett........... Just curious though about them, I homeshcool so I'd have a jungle gym set up at my desk so he could hang out a few hours a day. What bird ould be good for this? ? Sorry about my rambling I'm just so excited I've been brought back into the bird world

Hi There, and welcome to Birdcrazy.
If you have not had a teil before, dont hesitate, they are adorable birds. Full of fun, and normally easy and gentle.
So when do you think you will get a new birdie?

Hi and welcome to the board I envy you being able to work with parrots, the closest we get is a keeper for the day at a local Bird Land. You're very lucky ;D I agree with Scully - Tiels make a wonderful pet and companion, you can't go too wrong Parrotlets can become very nippy really quickly, but if you will be spending much of the day hanging out with your bird you should be able to crack the biting. I'd personally go for a conure instead if you will be having a gym on your desk and spending most of the day with it - they love company and they love to learn from you. Anyway - keep us updated it would be nice to hear what you decided to get Deb

G'day from Australia beausoleil It's great that you are able to get back into birds after so long. I have 3 tiels as pets, 2 girls 1 boy. They are so cool and not a hassle at all. The male is very quiet, think he is set in his ways as he is getting on in years, while the girls are coming up to their 12 month birthday in a few months and have been a bit noisy due to both of them going through their "breeding" moments lol. But all in all they are great little birds. I am sure you won't be disappointed if you decide on a cockatiel. Mind you it would be hard to choose just one!

G'day and Welcome to the family World Parrot Refuge looks like a great place to volunteer, I am sure you will learn heaps there. I've heard nothing but good things about cockatiels as pets so I'm sure you won't go wrong. Also Conure's are great pets too.

Welcome beausoleil I agree with everyone else on here about the cockatiels..theirs pros & cons to every bird..cockatiels are snuggle bums if tamed down or handfed..Parrotlets, the great thing about them is, they are super quiet! they are little clowns, but as kiwi already said to you..they can be quite the nippers if not handled daily & spent lots of time with.MAKE sure & give lots of TOYS!! .they tend to go wild fast..so long as your going to spend lots of time with him or her they make great pets, be aware though even though they are small lol they eat more than a cockatiel does..due to the fact they have boundless energy levels...also dont forget to put a swing in with your parrotlet..they ADORE swings, ours will bob his little head back & fourth to really get his to going back & fourth LOL!!! all my birds have swings for that matter but I havent ever seen a bird love there swings as much as our parrotlet does..anyways I am rambling here congrats to becoming a future bird owner so glad to meet you & look forward to chatting on the boards!!

Awww thanks for the welcome guys!! i conures they are sooooo beautiful but they are one of loudest birds , am I correct?? My aunt has a sun conure named Caesar but he's not the greatest. He used to be very cuddly and nice etc but she sold him because of life circumstances and ended up getting him back. He's very finicky and screams at everything and is not friendly. I spent a monthevery day hanging by his cage giving him treast etc and he still hated me LOL
The Parrot refuge has a "conure" horse that has a lot of conures, small parrots and my fav Eucolpts (sp) None of the conures seemed nice and one grey headdd one chased me around LOl
I think I most likely will go for a tiel becasue I have not seen any parrotletts at our local pet stores etc. Eventually i'd love ti get a bigger big, hopefully a cockatoo or african grey
Can't Wait!!!!!

Well if you get a sun conure then yes, they are one of the loudest birds lol There are alot of members on here that have Green Cheeked Conures, myself included, and they will tell you that they are generally quiet birds. Blu, my turquoise split cheeky, is no louder than Alfie, my male tiel. I'd suggest you get a hand raised one and offer plenty of cuddles and playtime. I really don't think you would have an issue with a green cheek If you know of a reputable breeder then I'd also recommend a Brown Headed Parrot. I have a female and she is the quietest bird I have ever known. Really cuddly and shows LOADS of affection. If you go to the parrot and parakeet section on here her name is Meg if you want to take a peek

Hey Beausoleil! Let me just get my soapbox out for a minute... homeschooling is great! Good for you and your parents! Oh, yes, and welcome, lol! Hope all goes well with your new bird, I've never had a tiel, just budgies... but I am entertaining very strong hopes of getting a green cheek conure. Just something to keep in mind, I have read (and heard) that although conures tend to have a bad repuation among rescues, if you start right and get a well socialized baby, they can be great. I am more for conures myself than tiels, but then again, I've never had a tiel, so who knows! Good luck with everything and I can't wait to hear what happens!
