Hello everyone My name is Mary and I'm so excited to be a member on here! For Christmas, my daughter gave me a wonderful parrolet I'm not sure how old he is but I was told he is still a baby. I just love him I named him "Houdini" because he is always trying to figure out ways to escape from his cage! He is a very sweet bird. He already has learned to fly to me and perch on my shoulder! I cant wait to teach him to talk but I have no idea how to even go about it. Maybe some of you expert bird people could give me some tips on this and anything else that may be important for me to know.Any advice you guys give me will be much appreciated I look forward to meeting all of you and sharing our love for birds! Thank you all and Happy Holidays!

Hey there! Welcome and belated Merry Christmas! Sounds like you had a wonderful present! I can't wait to hear more about Houdini (fun name!) and we all love pictures! I'm definitely no expert but will do my best to answer any questions, as we all will. I'm Liz, by the way, Budgiebuddy is just too much to type.

G'day Mary. Houdini sounds like a very clever birdy learning to fly to you already. I have never taught a bird to talk yet from scratch, but my partners mum taught her bird to talk by repeating the same word over and over and over, until one day the bird started to repeat it. Now she says quite a few words and depending on what she, (the bird), is doing as to how she says them lol Cute really

What a wonderful present!
I dont know much about parrotlets, but the ones i know of on the net seem so sweet. When a bird starts to talk, i have found once they start, they pick up other things pretty quick. Just keep repeating.
Welcome to Birdcrazy, enjoy the boards, like whats been siad we would love to see a picture or two ;D

G'day Mary and Houdini! Welcome to Bird Crazy, it is lovely to have you here. What a wonderful daughter giving such a lovely christmas present. Only way I've had experience teaching birds to talk is repetition and not trying to teach too much at once. One or 2 words at a time.

Hiya, and welcome aboard they're a fab bunch on here and I'm sure you'll have a great time! The only extra advice that I can offer is that for some strange reason they seem to find two syllable words easier to tackle to begin with eg, Pol-ly, Mum-my, Pret-ty. Other than that it's just down to repitition - you may even find yourself waking up in the night repeating the word over and over Not all birds will talk, but be warned those that do tend to pick things up very easily once they get started
