Quartz is a fence lizard that I rescued after he got himself stuck in the aviary wire. I've had lots of lizards do this, or get beat up by the neighborhood dogs, and sometimes they will hurt themselves and wind up paralyzed while trying to escape. Once they've gotten stuck once, they tend to go back, so I usually get them free and keep them for awhile, feeding them up, getting rid of mites, letting them recover, and then I take them down my the river away from people and let them go. Some don't fully recover, and stay with me for the rest of their lives, but Quartz did, so he was successfully "relocated" last month. I enjoyed watching him, he was a character! I got this picture of him, and decided to share it with you guys...

Oh how cute is that! he has a cricket on his lil head!! I used to play with Lizards when I was a kid, but for some reason, I hit 35 & was terrified of them..not as bad as I am snakes but I still think they are cute! I think it has everything to do with the ones we have here lol.. they chase ya.. I think the antics of lizards is hilarious though..just not when they are chasing me! I love that you rehabilitate them!! I used to rehab all kinds of wild animals when I lived in Oregon!! I really miss it.

Lovely pic! I love the cricket on his head.
Laurie -- I was on the phone talking to my daughter the other day and I happened to glance out the window only to see a snake slithering across a window into my a/c unit!!!!! I was afraid to even go outside as the unit is not very far from the door. I called my hubby who rushed home. I called my dad (I'm a daddy's girl) only to have him laughing and calling the snake "slim". I then called a friend of mine who has a bunch of snakes and she gave us an idea on how to get the snake out of the unit. Hubby finally got the snake out and the darn thing started slithering toward me!!!! I'm surprised you couldn't hear me screaming all the way to Kentucky! It finally made its way under the house. We found out that it's not a poisonous snake but rather one that will eat rodents. We put stuff down outside anyway to keep them away from the house. Talk about a scary afternoon!!!

Thanks for all the comments, guys! I didn't expect him to be such a sensation... That is the only picture I have of him, but he is quite handsome. When he was basking he'd get bright blue iridescent spots all down his back. Those lizards like the aviary, which can be quite startling... I've dumped an entire water dish all over myself after discovering that there was a lizard two inches from my nose. I had to laugh at all the reptile adventure stories... I've had a fair share. Once my brother was out backpacking and on his return, left his backpack in the dining room. A few minutes later, there was a snake on the floor. At that point, I was terrified of snakes still, (I've gotten over it!) and quickly went to the safest spot... in other words, the kitchen counter. I stayed there until he assured me that the snake had been properly removed and would not be coming back. I was checking rooms before entering for a long time after that.

Oh, he is cute! And this is going to sound weird but the cricket looks cute too for some reason! LOL!
I had a scary snake experience a few years ago too.... I went to get my shoes out of the front porch and I saw this plastic snake coming out of the flower pot and into my shoe. I figured my sister had put it there for a laugh so carried on bending to pick my shoes up......... and then it flicked it's little tounge out at me and made a lunge for my face. I was bloody terrified! I thought it was an adder! so I slammed the front door and went yelling out the back for my mum who came stroling up the garden thinking I was joking. She opened the front door and it was stood up on end like it was gunna knock or ring the bell or something. We eventually managed to shoo it outside. It turned out to be a grass snake in the end but I still don't think I'd of been too happy if it bit me!

LOL I had an encounter with a Taipan the last address before I live now. It decided to hibernate in our laundry over winter and knowing my mother who buzzes around the house 100 miles per hour it could/probably would bite her! So I decided to remove it outside - bad idea! It was angry and made for me and backed me against a wall, I grabbed the first thing a broom and managed to pin it down. It was so angry I knew it wasn't safe to attempt to move it so I called my father down and we decided we had to put it down as it would have come back.
Google Taipan snake and you will know why I was worried.
