In all my years of breeding budgies this is the first one that has become egg-bound a new experience for me.
I noticed her this evening when I went to feed and put them to bed and she was very lethargic and I put it down to her sitting on eggs which were due to hatch any day.
She was out of the nest sitting near the water container with a big bulge.
I have treated her with a warm bath and administered warm oil in her rear and she is sitting on a perch and hopefully the egg will pass in the next few hours.
She will be taken to the vets in the morning so it is going to be a long night but she is worth it.
I am going to have her sterilized as I discovered that one of the eggs that she laid was larger than the others and on opening it I discovered it was a double yolked egg, so I'm presuming the egg that is bound is also very large hence the need for sterilization and she will become an indoor bird and live out the rest of her life as one spoilt bird.
I have taken pics of the egg with the two yolks and will post them as soon as I can. (still learning how to download and post them. My daughter usually does it for me but I'm learning)
Will let you know how she goes

I have heard of double yolkers but the longest I've heard of the twin embryo's living/developing is 2 weeks as there's not enough room in the shell. I trust she will be okay, please keep us informed.

I will be thinking of you, and your poor little bird. Hope all goes well for you both.
Hugs
