I can't believe I actually did it!
Last night I was on surfing round and came across this vet who makes video's of different procedures. He showed how to crop needle medication using a budgie as an example.
I got my Parrot Society goodies in the mail yesterday and got my crop needle and syringes.
This morning when collecting water bowls for sterilisation I spotted a young red rump hen looking really out of sorts. I caught her easily which really had the alarm bells ringing.
I popped her in the sick cage and went inside and made up some polyaid (also just got from PS). Had to unplug the crop needle as was wondering why nothing was coming out and also why it shot across the room when I pressed the syringe hard! Following the vets advice I got the needle in (after wrestling it past her strong beak and tongue) and felt it where it should be. Fed her just under 4ml of polyaid - didn't want to stress her too much.
This afternoon about 3pm I checked on her again and she was sitting on the perch! I put my hand in and she was running away from me! I have given her some nice seeds and some fresh medicated water and later she has hoeing into her tucker like there was no tomorrow!
8pm check she was bright and alert so decided to leave her be for the night.
Fingers crossed she improves and that I didn't hurt more than her feelings when I crop needled her.
WOOHOOO!!!

Unfortunately she died overnight. Obviously I didn't find her soon enough.
