They are still quite young, I gather their feathers have grown correctly? Do they ever flap their wings? Before they fly they have to strengthen their flight muscles.

Also were they carried everywhere they needed to go? Could be they are just lazy as they know 'mum' will come and pick them up.
I haven't had any that just wouldn't fly, I had some babies that couldn't fly until they were around 4 months old.

gooby very rarely flies either. He walks around the house or sits on my shoulder to be carried around. I thin its nothing to worry about. Perhaps coz they are handraised they don't realise they have to fly hehe maybe they see you and think you are their mother and that they should be walking around not flying.

You could have them on your finger. And have it go up and down..This will make them use there wings. Good exercize....

Or perhaps hold them over a big bed and see if you can launch them onto it so that they have somewhere to land? I do this with Budgy2 to keep his muscles working.

Are mum & dad in the house with them? Do they have birds around to "teach" them?

Hi Avril, my eldest budge, Graham Green hurt his wing soon after i got him. Anyway he has to climb and walk everywhere, and hes fine. His new friend Harvey, follows him around on the floor, they look funny waddling away together. We have no idea what exactly is wrong with Grahams wing, and he does flap like crazy some days, so no pain. While i used to worry about quailty of life, with a bird that cannot fly, i certainly dont anymore. If they never fly, and are happy with daily life, thats the important thing. I cannot do much about it, and hes been to the vets, so we just make life as fun as we can.

Hi Thanks for all your suggestions I think they r just lazy. Their feathers have grown properly they flap their wings and still they walk and climb everywhere. I'm not too fussed about it as My dog who also has the run of the house doesn't bother about them. They r very spoilt as I have a tray of feed out for them under the kitchen table so I'm not really encouraging them to fly. Budgies are a flock bird and they do like to be on the ground in the wild so they r doing what comes naturally. I must say the third one that I had was put in the big aviary and he flies everywhere. I hand raised these two for a couple of friends and I couldn't part with them big sook ;D I am where all my animals r concerned. Avril from Downunder

#cry# Hi everyone No more walking budgies I would love to report that they r happily flying everywhere but the sad truth is that while I was at the Dentist my Mum-in-law who is a darling and was just trying to help left the back door open and they took a long walk unfortunately I was not able to find them in the back yard . I couldn't rant and rave at her as she is 84 years old and just forgot to close the door before she had a nap. So I had a cry and just hope they did survive the outdoors but I don't give them much chance as they were so young. I am just glad I am not one of those people that clip wings to hand raise my precious birds so maybe they will have a fighting chance I can only be positive with my hopes. I have now devised a door gate just for any more walking budgies it is a minature baby gate that folds across the bottom of the door about 12inches high Avril from OZ

Aww that is awful news Avril! Lets just hope that when they walked outside they decided that "today is a good day to fly".
