I've seen something vaguely similar from Beekle when he's playing with a pal in a mirror.
He'll start bouncing up and down while making an ascending series of squeaks. At the end he'll pause then repeat it. Whatever it means he's never directed it at me but seems to think it's worth saying to his reflection:
Buh-buh-bah-bah-beh-beh-bi-bi!
When he does it in his cage he makes the whole cage bounce on its spring.

Beekle has now tried lettuce once or twice but doesn't seem to get the point. I think he was just licking the water droplets of it. So far I've only got him to eat Brocolli and corn both of which I like eating raw so there is a 'stock availability' problem there

Congratulations! If Yayo is like Beekle he'll soon start paying attention to your lips. After that he'll learn other words quite quickly. Don't be surprised if he gets inventive though. Beekle doesn't seem to realise or care that the sounds he's picked up need to be repeated in a particular order.
As regards the age - Beekle was a late starter. It was spring last year so he was probably 18 months old.
He can spend many minutes 'muttering' away to himself. It can be quite annoying because it sounds like he's talking unless you pay attention closely, lol.

..or at least he's now in a foul mood.
He was playing on his new mirror toy on his new java tree (both Christmas presents actually). He jumped off as he likes to and started pecking around on the cloth underneath.
Now normally this is perfectly okay thing for him to do and he hops back on when he's done.
Did I say hops back on? Yes that's right the toy hangs at about beak height. Ideal for getting on to.
Not so ideal if the toy has been left swinging and the budgie concerned spots something interesting underneath it and forgets that's there's a hanging bell.
It's not often I hear Beekle give that 'sweaing' "eek, eek, eek, eek" screech but he spent several seconds directing it at the bell. I was expecting him to hit it and get another face full but apparently he decided to give that a miss.
He's climbed back on the toy now so I think he's calmed down, lol.

Recently Beekle has developed enough trust in me (like it's only been nearly two years ) to try almost anything vaguely food like I offer in my hand. So I thought I'd try him with some millet. Previously he hasn't wanted anything to do with it. So I place a sprig on his porch and hold it with my hand. He tries a bit. Then he puts one foot on the sprig and looks at me. Ah ha! He does like it! After five seconds he's still looking at me. And after half a minute. So I let go of the sprig. After waiting a couple of seconds he lifts his foot and it falls onto the floor. Beekle reenters his cage starts playing with his mirror. I guess that's a 'no thanks' then
