Dear Crazy Bird members i have not been on the forum for a while as i have been quite busy, but recently my beautiful budgie Astro Boy has passed away. We are not sure why he passed, he was young and perfectly healthy, he seemed to be quite happy and constantly chatting to me and playing with his toys, even on the night he passed. what happend was, i was off to bed, so i put Astro back in his cage, and when mum went to bed she was going to cover his cage with a blanket... but found him dead. I miss him very much, he was my beautiful best friend. I miss talking to him and listening to him telling me how pretty he was, or asking me if i wanted a cup of tea i don't think i could ever replace Astro Boy If anyone could help me to understand how he passed away, it would be very much appreciated. i also appologise for not keeping you up to date with Astro. RIP Astro Boy

I have decided to expand my budgie family, as I love my dear budgie so much, i would love to have more to breed. Looking at everyones pictures of their beautiful budgies and aviaries has made me become more interested in breeding them. I have discussed it with my parents, and they have agreed , the school holidays are a week away from now, so that is when I will be researching and planning to expand the family. I am currently looking at outdoor aviaries and trying to decide what I am looking for...this is so much fun!!! I would extremely appreciate it if you could share some advice with me on expanding my budgie family. I will try to keep in touch with my journey!!!! Kira

hey guys, I love making my harlequin budgie Astro Boy toys out of everyday objects. Astro loves to play with large cupcake patties, he puts all his toys in it, and then takes them out again and starts rolling in it, its hilarious to watch. I remember the day I got Astro, while i was waiting for mum to bring him home i started to make him toys, which included some buttons tied on a piece of string...i later realized that budgies and chew through string and woke up the next morning with buttons all through his cage and on the floor. So now when i am using string to make Astro some toys, i make sure i use thicker and stronger string. other things that i have used for toys include: plastic Key rings, plastic cylinder parts from used sticky tape, buttons, ping pong balls, pom poms, pretty much anything that is safe and budgie friendly. My friends often come to school and bring me some objects like key rings for Astro to play with. Astro's favourite toy is this little fluffy yellow chicken that you sometimes get with easter eggs...he will play with it for hours. i also have a green sharpener container and lid (obviously the sharpener part have been taken out) and he loved to throw the lid around and stick his head inside the container and roll it around too. i just LOVE making him toys, i even love it more when hes enjoying the toys i have made for him. It makes my day I LOVE ASTRO!! Kira

as previously mentioned in my other post, i am a new budgie owner, and still learning alot about budgies, especially my new budgie Astro Boy i was having a discussion with my Mum the other day, and i was explaining that in the future when Astro grows older, i would like to breed him, and continue breeding to start my own Budgie business while i am at school. But mum said that it is best not to get another budgie to be Astro's mate, as i will lose the friendship with him. She also said that he might stop talking. Im not quite convinced by this and i was wondering if i could get a few more oppinions. What is the best thing i should do? i feel that if i get a mate for Astro in the future our relationship won't change. i would really love to get a mate for him. Kind Regards Kira

Hi guys My name is Kira, i am 16 years old, and i have a 7 month old Budgie named Astro boy. Hes gorgeous, but both of us are still in training. I just a have a few problems with gaining his trust, as he is my first budgie (hopefully first of many). my parents have had budgies before, but Astro is my own, and i look after him by myself. Astro Boy's wings are unclipped, when i let him out of his cage he sits ontop of his cage or he plays in his playground near his cage. I understand that his cage and his playground are his "safe places", but i want him to know that i am safe, if you know what i mean. i would really love it if i could walk around with him on my shoulder, he does this occaisianaly, but often flys back to the playground or cage. can anyone give me some tips to gaining my budgies trust and he also plays alot....non stop, is this normal for a budgire, or is it just because he is young? Thank you Kind regards Kira
