Well folks, here they are ...... my pensioner budgies, the latest additions the Batty flock This is Albert This is Victoria As you can see Victoria has a rather large lump on her tummy, although I'm glad to report that now she is getting more exercise this is starting to slowly reduce in size. I think she's already half the budgie that she was a week ago She's even flying now, and couldn't do that 2 weeks ago This afternoon she even went so far as to sneak out of the aviary when I wasn't paying attention - she manage to fly half way across the lounge before gliding to the ground Albert is a real hit with the youngsters, and they never stop flirting with him He always comes back to roost close to Victoria at night though ... bless I've been told that they are either 7 or 8 years old.

Albert is a real handsome fellow! That lump on Victoria's belly is most likely a fatty tumour that should continue to reduce in size when she exercises and loses weight.

awwww thanks guys They are quite adorable, and can certainly hold their own with the youngsters. I'm sure you're right Karen - the lump itself is sort of yellowish under the skin, which makes me think it's fatty. When she first arrived the lump was so large that she had a completely bald belly, and she also had a large amount of fluid surrounding it. It was so bad that her belly was overhanging the perch that she was sitting on (on both sides!). Happily all the fluid now seems to have gone, and (it might be my imagination!) the lump does seem to gradually be getting smaller. There are even a few feathers breaking through now, and she's definitely much more active. I'll take another pic in a couple of weeks to let you see how she's progressing.
