Kaeci is turning out to be such a gentle bird. i can pick him up, and give him a real good cuddle , kisses, and tickles, and he lets me do that no problem. hes so soft, and dont laugh ..i love his feathery smell too As soon as i carry him somewhere to spend time with him, he wants to fly back to his cage...i cant seem to make him want to stay for more that a minute or so. But its early days, and hes making good progress. He does not venture out his cage much, unless i get him out, but its not long before hes back in. hes eating greens at last hes such a pretty boy too. For the first time im actually thinking of wing clipping, but im so undecided about it.

He sounds like a real sweetie. I'm sure he'll venture out more often when he's ready.

I'd do the wing clipping Donna. I do with my birds - only the once though as when the new feathers grow in they know the house & it's safe. I just clipped Sam's wings Sunday, it has settled him/her already. S/he flap and crash about in the cage now s/he is very calm.

Noo is clipped only because he is a snot when he can fully fly and he tries to eat the budgies and do rude things with Patty.
I also had to clip my African Grey Monty myself the other day which was a chore in its self he wasnt keen at all and Ive the beak marks on my shoulder to prove it hehe.
The clip doesnt last long at all, if you feel better about letting him out then do it - its not going to be permanent.

Kaeci is a calm bird, and still gentle. Its frustrating, as he steps on my fingers fine, then i just get to sit down with him, and he flys back. Tonight i just opened his cage, and he did perch on the open door, and looked around for a while.Thats the most he has ventured out so far. If i do clip him, i still want him to be able to fly a bit, so im not sure if i would gain anything by doing it. How does it grow back, do you have to wait until they moult the clipped bits out? Hes starting to listen to me, hes so sweet. Lennie is like a single plane dogfight, hes always clipping the side of my head when im walking around Hes found the kitchen window, and realised he can see the birds in the avairy just outside. He gets behind the net curtain and watches them.

I am beginning to wonder whether this might not be a good idea to do with my tiel Fred. He (which actually I start to think might be a she because Georges face is getting quite yellow and Freds hasn't changed from the 'dirty' look) is now doing the same as Kaeci, he steps up fine but flies off within about 10 secs every time, which is a real pain when I am trying to get him back in his cage and no matter how long I leave him he won't go back in by himself. He tries to bite quite a lot too... not hard but just to let me know that he doesn't want to go back in his cage. What do you reckon? And could I do Fred and not George, George is soo good and so sweet that I would feel bad doing it for no real reason! Sorry Scully, didn't mean to ambush your post... its just on the same topic so I thought I would join in : )

well i decided to break quarintine, and let Kaeci and Graham meet. Im hoping as Graham has no choice but to stay, he may help Kaeci confidence.
Booms! you were so right, about Budgies and Tiels..poor Kaeci is havcing a few nibbles on the head by Graham, and Graham rides his tail. I will have to be careful, and Graham will stay in with Lennie.
