Hello everyone. My dad found these two at a swap-meet on Sunday, and almost bought them. He came home and did some research to discover that they were Kakriki's, we've never seen them before. So we went back and I got them, so their my babies...haha. Anyways I know that a swap-meet isn't the best place to buy any living animal but they were just so darn cute. And luckily my dad knows a lot about birds so he says they seem perfectly healthy. I've named them Bonnie & Clyde (red masked bandits). So heres some pictures. By the way, I know the pics aren't the best, I took them with my phone, but the lady we bought them from said they were a male and female. I was just wondering if I could have your input on it too. Thanks a bunch. Ill put better pictures up of them tonight.

Hi Jayme - welcome! Lovely Birdies Good News, they are fun, friendly and just about the most entertaining birds that there are Bad News, totally addictive - they are a bit like pringles, once you've had one you want more and more and more lol! Enjoy your new babies

From the photo they look male & female. Males have a larger & broader beak than females. Do you know if they are related? If they are then you'll need to get another pair to prevent them from breeding as they are very fiesty in the breedng deparment (except mine of course! ).

Bonnie keeps running in circles in their cage kind of like its a hamster wheel. And Clyde makes the prettist noises. I don't know if they are releated. The lady told us they were ready to breed so I would assume not, Clyde is the emerald green color and Bonnie is a yellow green color. His feet are black too, while hers are white. The tip of her beak is a pinkish color too. My boyfriend was putting the nest box on their cage and Bonnie jumped on his arm for a second while he had his arm in there to bolt it on and then she bit him.

I wouldn't attempt to breed them yet until you know a bit more about them. Give them a good 2-3 months with you before putting the nest box in. Some breeders say they are ready to breed at 4 months old (which they are) but this is way too young & should be at least 8 months old.

Nice birds there Jayme, hope you have as much fun owning them as we do, They are very addictive, just ask Karen. lol
Have they got any yellow feathers any where? Clyd sounds like a pure green to me and Bonnie a Cinnamon pied,( i may be wrong)
My Kiwi runs round the cage like a nutter when he wants to come out, his got so good at it that when he runs across the roof upside down he doesn't hold on with his beak. ( show off)

You guys will get them, I walked out of the kitchen this morning and into the livingroom to find them going at it. I let them out of their cage for a while yesterday and they were so cute. (My dad cliped their wings a little bit, only the first 3 or four primary flight feathers so we don't have any accidents) but they were using boxes and chairs and couches kind of like stairs to climb up. I had a bowel full of water out for them if they wanted to take a bath but they showed no interest in it. I know I need to get more pictures up, and I promise I will as soon as I can. No there aren't any yellow feathers on either of them.
