This year I have found that I have sacrificed going away because I just can't find anywhere to take the birds in while we're away. Friends and family have offered but the birds need 'specialized' care that they can't offer. What I'm saying really is that they need to be cared for by other bird lovers I guess. So I've done a bit of research and there are no Bird Hotels at all round here. Is it the same for everyone else? Would you use a Bird Hotel if you had one local? If it meant travelling a little bit would you still use it if you were convinced the care they would get was good? What sort of thing would you want from a Bird Hotel? What kind of facilities? I'm just curious I guess, as birds don't seem to feature high in the pet list and there are not many boarding places that I can see

There is a bird hotel near me and I will be checking it out because I have the opportunity of going away next year, the first time in yonks apart from the motor home with Berty Having said that, it would have to be a VERY, VERY special place!! It would have to be hands on! not just fed, watered etc and I would want to get to know the owners before I board, like unannounced visits. Berty had a stroke in July, she's back to her normal self except from her legs, so if I'm honest I know I probably won't use one, but you always live in hope for that very special place Everyones bird has different needs, this is a difficult one!

I havent known of any around here, but apart from that I know I wouldnt use one for myself...simply because my mother had a terrible experience with a dog hotel...I know its a different animal, but after what all they "said they would do" & what they "Actually did" was two different things...moms little dog ended up sick, dehydrated & starving , they also had excellent feedbac & higher ratings...I dont know I may not be making sense to alot of people but for ME! I wouldnt want to take the chance of something lasting affecting my fids or furbutts ...it makes for a very difficult choice..for me I have no choices :'(I sacrifice vacationing, simply because I know no one will care for my babies the way I do lol..I drive my mother crazy!! she wants me to hire a house sitter & come visit in Oregon to go to the beach, THAT! wont be happening lol I would be a basket case during the whole vacation!

Laurie I agree with everything you said and when I re-read my post. I had talked myself out of the idea in a few sentences lol I looked at the bird hotel near me, only online! at www.billsbirdsandboaording.com Looks ok and is affiliated with our Avian vet who I don't like! Vet is very ruff and gruff with berty, no bedside manners (with Berty or us!) not got alot of choice he's the only one for MILES!! Can you trust a Bird Hotel to care for our birds like we do!! Thats the BIGGEST question..............answer is a BIG NOMy daughter has been living in Cape Town SA for 3 years and we have'nt been over to see her Her job brings her to England each year, but would to go and see her So I do understand you not going to the beach to see your mom

Kim! I would like to make you a genuine offer - if you would trust in me to look after her, then I would be only too happy to look after Berty for you, we have to stick together you know and Berty is more than welcome to come visit for a while - you could even ring her up everyday for a chat Seriously though - you're not that far from us and you are more than welcome to come and visit anytime beforehand to have a look round at my other birds and where she would be staying
