Scully, I really feel for you and your 'Little Biggs' x ((Hug)) x Yes, Berty was 'soo sad' in July but look back at the pics with Mr Sharpy!!! so MUCH progress now!!! ;D All I can say is carry on giving Biggs 'alsorts' just to get him interested Worked, and is still working with Berty. Deb advised me to give her Omega 3, only been on it two and half days, but Berty's using her feet when we offer food to her each day now! Where as before it was 3 times in the last 4 weeks, and then she dropped it after a few secs, still can't hold it for long but WOOHOO her lil' ole' leg is up and asking To be fair, that could just be her normal slow progress but she deffo seems to have a boost this week Scully, I'm sorry but I have ask. Did the vid work?!?!

No It did not, but the picture was sad, i was imagineing it was my Biggles lying like that, and i so felt for you. Biggles my conure is not the bird that is sick, its a Kakariki. Beautiful boy Simon, i took Karens idea today and gave him a bath for some physio.
Hes no better, but no worse.

Kim I'm so happy to hear your news about Berty - fingers crossed this is the beginning of a good recovery Donna the Omega3 I advised Kim to give Berty was just walnuts and flax seeds, wouldn't harm to give them a go - if it is some kind of stroke then the brain needs nourishment to speed up recovery. It can't be nice to be going through this with Simon

Oh, I am really sorry about using the wrong name I appologize to you, Biggles and Simon Deb's advice with brain food is working with Berty, using her foot to grab something each day now! It's really worth a try I'm still perservering with Karen's water therapy but Berty still just sits there. So, like Simon, no better no worse, but it won't hurt to keep trying You didn't say much today apart from the water therapy. How is he in himself? Any small changes since it happened? Please keep updating Simon's progress, I would be sad not to hear how he's getting on x I

As a matter of interest did your vet prescribe anything for Bertie?
Simon had a funny turn yesterday, but is back on his perch today, back to where he was.

Aww, Scully, I've just found this thread and it sounds like the same thing's happening to Simon as happened to two of my kakarikis and, I suspect still, my new "special baby". When he flaps on the floor, does he sort of loose the use of his legs and pull his head right back? If he's doing that then pick him up when it happens and hold him on his back. I know it sounds daft but it always snapped mine out of it again pretty quickly.

I'm really sorry to about Simons funny turn again I have everything crossed for him. As for Bertys prescriptions, its a long list! Injections, Rimadyl, Nandrolin, Dexafort, CalciumEDTA, Amoxycare. She was having them every 3days then wkly then 2wkly then 3wkly now 4wkly, obviously not in the same jab .....the poor things a pin cushion!! Oraly, Metacam, Baycox, Baytril, Borgal, Anivit, Duphafral. She's off the oral stuff now just her Avipro plus and Calcivet. Sounds alot but it was a process of elimination.

This is such a sad thread. I hope everyones birds will take a turn for the better. My vet told me if the right care and lots of love is provided, animals usually do the rest of the work. They have such a strong will to survive. Sending healing thoughts and wishes to everyones birds.

I've been slack with keeping up. Whey powder you can get it from a health food shop. I picked up a 200gram back for around $7. With the water therapy, maybe put more water in so she can't touch the bottom and try with your hand under her body slowly moving her around like a little rubber ducky type thing. If she doesn't act on the movement maybe release her but keep your hand under so she doesn't sink - let her sink a bit as her survival instinct should kick in and make her do everything so she doesn't drown (notwithstanding you'll be there to make sure she doesn't).
