As the first forum I've ever joined I just wanted to say hello and I look forward to hearing about all of your awesome birds and learning from you all.
I recently adopted a Black Headed Caique named Jake from the vet hospital I work at and he is my first real pet since I've been on my own. (My cockatiel and dogs are my parent's animals more than mine).
I've worked with birds of both the psittacine and raptorial persuasion for the last 5 years and my life revolves around them. So I found myself here interested in perhaps learning more about Caiques and maybe even Jake himself since I know nothing of his life before I met him.
Thank you and Hello! "Tahoma" and Jake!

G'day Tahoma & Jake! oh I do love caique's! I reckon they are awesome little birds. I'd love to own one and one day when I win lottery I will get one. In Oz they are upwards of $3000 each.

Thank you all ;0)
And $3000 is crazy expensive! Are there not many exotic bird breeders in Australia? Oh! And I'm sure this is a stupid question but how much would the cockatiels, budgies ('keets), and the (umbrella and sulfur crested?) cockatoos go for? What are the adoption options like there?
I'm not honestly certain how much Caiques go for here in the states--especially in the Pacific Northwest--and I wasn't even going to get a bird until post master's degree but sometimes life chooses for you instead of the other way around and I'm so happy it did.
Anyhow, thank you all and I will be sure to take many pictures as the days go by and look forward to seeing pictures of all your birds!
Thanks again, Tahoma and Jake

Welcome Tahoma! Caiques are such eye catching birds, I'm looking forward to hearing about the Jake underneath the good looks! Lucky you working with raptors, that must be a pretty interesting job. My brother did a lot of volunteering at wildlife rescue places and did some work with raptors, but not too much.

Thank you :0)
I like to say I love the opportunities--though the 'job' definitely has its ups and downs.
The raptors are amazing teachers. If you even get to the chance to visit a raptor sanctuary or rehab center and just observe them they are so willing to show us so much about their world. At least so it seems to me. But anyway,
Thank you all!
