Hello everyone I have just found your site, my husband breeds ornamental pheasants and red leg partridges as a hobby so I decided to keep a trio of quail then I thought it would be nice to have some other birds in the same aviary as the quail so I bought 2 pairs of zebra finches which turned out to be 3 boys and 1 girl so I have just bought another 3 girls I also have a pair of diamond doves a pair of silver bill finches and a pair of bangalese finches. I have just hatched 7 baby quail in my incubator and although I have only had the finches etc since 20 May today I descovered two nests with eggs in which I think are the silver bills and a pair of zebra finches because they have been keeping a low profile for over a week so guess they have been sitting on eggs !!!
I am not sure if there is a forum on this site for finches can anyone tell me if there is and if so how to get there because although I know how to incubate and care for baby pheasants I am not sure what feed I have to give finch parents / babies.
I am also thinking about getting some red factor canaries but do not know anything about them any advice would be much appreciated.

hiya welcome to Bird Crazy, yeah we have a canary and finch section! my husband used to have zebra finches but now we just have canaries in our aviary. we have a red factor hen and cock. also have 2 yellow border canaries, we are trying to breed them all at the moment. Red factors are lovely, you can get colour fed birds which you need to feed red egg food so they keep their colour, and there are colour bred birds which will keep their colour. we have colour fed birds as we couldnt find colour bred canaries, but they are just as nice. They can be a bit more difficult to breed as we are finding out!! My hubby recommends fife or border canaries to start off with, i hope this helps. check out the canary section for pictures and info. we fed our baby finches on Emp rearing egg food. its a great food, and is universal suitable for most birds like budgies and cockatiels and canaries! i gave it to my breeding cockatiels and the baby grew really well and healthy (check out tiel section!) i hope you enjoy it here, would love to see some photos as i like diamond doves! we also had bengalese finches a while a go! Alexandra and birdies

Welcome! If you need advice, there are a lot of people here with finches and canaries. (not me though ) You don't sound that new to me... you have more of a variety of birds than I do! I'd love to see pictures of your birds. My brother used to raise zebra finches, and he had around thirty of them at one point. I just have budgies now, (and one finch that thinks he's a budgie, lol) but quail would be fun!

Hi Jan02 I am new also, the sections here l have found, so far are easy... Canaries l can say from experiance is they are great to have, thou cold is a enemy to them.In other words keep them neutral about 14 degree's or more no problem..Draft free enviroment is also a must!!(when it is cold) and so cover in there cage is a must if this happens.. Hopes this helps for starters....
