My poor little Vincent is not breathing well. He is a parakeet that is approx. 3-4 years old and I just got him a few months ago. It's 4am and he woke my sister up with his loud labored breathing that sounds like two rough stones being rubbed together. There was some major tail bobbing going on but after about 3 minutes of doing that he "got better" and stopped his rasping sound. I listened close and he was still making the same sound, just more quietly. The vet doesn't open until 8:30am so I can't call them yet. Maybe Vince has something stuck in his crop? I don't know what to do....I need some advice please!

Sounds as though it could be an infection in his airsacs. It is not good when a bird gets breathing problems and often turns out to be aspergillosis. Sadly many of these cases will die and only a few make a full recovery. I hope you have a good vet to take him to, in the meantime keep him as warm as possible.
