That's great! hehe maybe Chicken might even have inspired your parents to think of getting themselves a companion parrot? Could be! My mom used to have a cockatiel who loved to ride around on my dad's shoulder. I think having Chicken for a few days reminded them of how much fun birds can be. Thats good news Erik, and next time you wont have to worry. good little Chicken ;D Yes, it definitely is a relief to know this! thats awesome!! I`m glad he had so much fun lol birds are so much smarter than we give them credit for, they can sense whos good fid magnets!! he must have sensed that in your dad even though your dad probably didnt know he was a Fid Magnet LOL!!!! Yes, good point about my dad being a magnet hehe. Could be because his voice sounds a bit like mine too.

Cute! Scuba Biggs! Did he splash water on the other birds? My green-cheek gets it all over the place, so I have to put his bathing dish in the sink and use my hands to block some of the splatter.

Well, all went very well! Chicken, my conure, bonded a little with my dad! He rode around on his shoulder, "preened" his neck, and enjoyed his company. I'm happy he was a well-behaved bird and a pleasure for my parents to have for a few days, because I know how nippy he can be with other people.

I always think Nandays look so cool with those black feathers on their heads. Good pic!

Thanks, Karen! Good idea about the routine. I'll write down some of his daily habits for my parents to refer to, and, of course, I'll always have my cell phone at hand for any q's. I'm hoping he'll enjoy a little unexpected excitement.

Hehe glad you all like the pics! He sure makes a mess when he takes a bath, but it's fun to watch him. My wife calls him Scuba Chicken when he dunks his whole head under the water. Afterwards, he always loves a nice, warm blow dry with the hairdryer.

It's time for Chicken, my cinnamon green-cheeked conure, to take a bath! First, he's testing the water: Then he's soaked:

I'm going away on vacation for just a few days at the beginning of next month, and I plan on leaving my green-cheeked conure with my parents. This, of course, involves transporting his cage, toys, food, etc. over to a different house. Now, I did this once before when I left for a vacation in the Spring of 2007, but my conure was still relatively new (I got him in November of '06). He was fine back then, and my parents enjoyed having him. My concern now is that he won't enjoy being in a completely different home after being in one place (where he feels safe) for so long. I really don't want to leave him alone for four days, and it wouldn't be easy for my parents to drive half an hour to my place every day to check up on him, so I have little choice. Any thoughts from you guys? What do you do when you go on vacation? My bird will probably be fine with my parents, but are there any issues I should be aware of?

And cockatiels are pretty laid back compared to other birds, such as conures. That was at least my experience with the cocketiel that my mother used to have. Welcome to the board Erik. what a cute name CHICKEN You will enjoy it here I'm sure. Thanks for the welcome! When we first got our bird, we originally started calling him Kiwi (which seems to be fairly common for green birds hehe). My wife began calling him Chicken, and the name stuck ever since.

I've never seen my conure do this, but he doesn't seem to mind a bit of poop (which I promptly remove) in his food bowl.

I asked Chicken the same thing. He said, "nope!", then tried to bite into the magazine I was reading.
