Biting

Thanks for the tips, Karen and Scully. His favorite food is banana, so perhaps I'll try that method of only having my wife feed it to him. Good idea! I'll try placing him on the floor too, though he tends to eliminate on the carpet, so I better set him on the tile hehe. I've trained him to go when I say, "Poop!", but he doesn't always wait for that.

Thanks, Laurie! Yeah, it looks like we arrived around the same time, so a warm welcome to you too! He really is lovely - I bet he gets up to some right mischief? lol He really does hehe. I should have named him Mischief, cause he's full of it.

Biting

Hmm ok. Thanks, Karen. He's still a young bird (almost 2 yrs old), so perhaps he'll change when he gets older. And keeping one person out of the room when the bird is out of the cage wouldn't work anyway. He always knows when someone's around hehe. I've read some stuff about passing the bird to various family members, talking soothingly and appraisingly to it while you do so, but that certainly doesn't work with our fiesty little guy. My wife jokingly says that he's bi-polar.

I have a green-cheeked conure who is almost 2, and he has a bad habit of trying to attack my wife when I'm around. I know that he or she has bonded with me, but is there any sure-fire way to get him to stop biting her? When I'm not around, he's fine with my wife. He'll even cuddle on her shoulder and preen her sometimes. As soon as I walk in the door, he runs over to me and wants nothing to do with her anymore - to the point of trying to bite her if she comes near. We've tried keeping him close while I hold him, and both of us talking to him in very appraising tones, but as soon as my wife puts her hand near...watch out! Perhaps it also has to do with the fact that he's an adolescent bird, but I'd appreciate any suggestions you guys might have.

Hey thanks, gang I'm glad everyone likes the pics! Chicken really is a character, as I'm sure most of you are familiar with with your own birds hehe. Goofy little guys, they are! And welcome to you too, helena, since you're new like me.

Thanks for the warm welcome, all. Will be good to discover new info about birds by talking to everyone here. I've only been a bird owner since November of 2006, so there's still plenty I can learn. Here are a few photos of Chicken:

Looks like a fun place! I have a cinnamon green cheeked conure named Chicken, and he'll (she'll?) be 2 years old next month. He's bonded with me, and he tolerates my wife when I'm not around hehe. Anyway, looking forward to chatting with everyone in the forums.

My green cheek likes cherries. I give him half of one, and he eats the inside (flicking the skin onto the floor). He also likes oranges if I give him a small slice, though he tends to just lick at it instead of actually eating it. Once in awhile, I'll give him half of a salted peanut as a treat, but I'll wipe off some of the salt with my finger. He LOVES it.
