is he happy to come out the cage? the most tried and tested method of training a bite happy birdie to be a friend ive ever done is to let the bird out and sit in the place he/she most likes to perch/play with a favorite titbit just in front of you (either on the arm of the chair, or on floor in front of you if sitting on floor), any birdie that has a soft spot for the treat you have will eventually come get it. do this every day and as you feel him getting bolder, put it slightly closer to you. repeat this until it is on your knee and then gradually your hand. by getting him to take nicely from your knee first, it retracts the instinct to nip as there isnt any digits to get hold of - crafty eh!! #norty# all our members have their own tricks to get their birds to stop biting etc, so im sure there will be other tips for you to try too

i think Dr De Beer is a very helpful Dr to be willing to look at photos and give you a diagnosis is fab! Even though it could take a while to heal, at least you know it will be healed eventually with the right medication. Not knowing either way doubles the worry! Bird mad = in the right place!!! #norty# everyone is as nutty as fruitcakes here, except me of course

i must admit, i sometimes take advantage of the ease of access to my avian vet and local amenities - its not till im reminded of the remoteness of some of our members that i realise how lucky i am! We have called on our vet so often over the years that she is even godmother to one of my children #norty# awww bless her! she sounds like she's getting SO much fuss and attention i agree with Donna though, witch hazel is a godsend! ive had a quick search and found "HEALx SOOTHER PLUS CREAM" www.harrisonsbirdfoods.com/products/page/healx.html (bottom product) i have a good look around the site and there doesnt seem to be any restrcitions on areas to post to (as far as i could see). Hope it helps?

unfortunately i would recommend the day's trip to the avian vet if antibiotics havent helped then it obviously isnt an infection and could mean that there is something more serious, maybe a muscle or bone complaint. Did your vet (that hates birds) have a look at the foot or did she prescribe something over the phone? We have had a bird before that had a fibre wrapped around the foot and needed a toe amputated once the fibre was removed. Could s/he maybe have something wrapped round it? I would put him/her in a smaller confined cage to restrict movement and doing potentially more damage untill he/she is able to see the avian vet. Sorry i know this isnt what you was hoping to hear, but i dont really think there is anything more i can suggest?
