Thanks, Karen! That's actually not a bad idea, having the bird bite the cat hehe. I'd consider letting Chicken do that, but I'd feel bad doing that to such a cute little kitten. Heck, I sometimes feel bad when I've nailed him with the squirt gun a few times. Perhaps when he's a sturdy adult cat I'll introduce him to Chicken's beak. Chicken seems pretty interested in Romeow's whiskers, though...

Thanks, Sal! Ahhhh yes, the good ole squirty bottle. You know, our cat was getting squirted so much in the end all we had to do was make the noise that the bottle makes when in use and the cat would run! lol Definately gonna be a lap cat. Hehe that's pretty funny. Romeow definitely knows the squirt bottle now, so when we pull it out, he usually flees in terror. It'd be nice if all we had to do was make a similar sound!

Thanks, tasha! Here's another lap photo for ya hehe. He was a mischievious kitten today. I had to squirt him a couple times with the water bottle when he went near Chicken's cage. Chicken was perched on my finger, but I don't want the little kitty thinking he can go over in that corner whenever he pleases.

Hehehe what a clever little bird! And I thought Chicken was bad when he kept yanking off the B key on my laptop. Like Biggles, I think he was loving the attention I was giving him.

My wife gets the credit for choosing that name, and I agreed that it's really cute. I joked that if we also got a female cat, her name would have to be Mewliet. But one is about all I can handle with my allergies! What a beautiful kitten Erik! such lovely features.. I love the white on his legs and paws. When he runs around, he looks like he's wearing two pairs of white socks hehe.

Here are some pictures of our new kitten, Romeow. I discovered him, his three siblings, and his mother in a window well at work. The mother had given birth to her kittens on a pile of leaves down there, and she would climb a nearby drainpipe to go hunt for food. Once I found them, my coworkers and I partially covered the grate over the well to shelter the little ones from rain, then placed bowls of food and water inside for the mother. We immediately got in contact with a woman who runs an adoption center for cats, and she came to take them all once the kittens were old enough to move about on their own. For about a month, the mother and her kittens lived in a comfortable bedroom where they enjoyed the safety and care that was provided. Finally, last weekend, our little one was ready to be adopted, so my wife and I welcomed him to our home on Sunday night! Asleep in my wife's lap: Relaxing: Here he is witnessing the outside world for the first time. We had just pulled him and his siblings from the window well: This is one of Romeow's sisters who is being adopted by one of my coworkers: Here they are in the cage after being lifted from the well: And here's the mother milking her babies before we got them all out:

Yeah, I don't think Chicken is one of those birds who will accept a flight suit very well hehe. Thanks for the link!

Thanks, Karen. Yeah, I don't let Chicken out of the cage without supervision. So far the kitten just glances at him once in awhile, but doesn't seem very interested. We also gave him a few good squirts of water when he wandered near Chicken's cage, so he's learning that he's not supposed to go near.

He tries to give his seed to the perch itself? Goofy bird hehe. Oops! Erik, I was sure that I had replied to this already! Sorry... As Karen said though, he may just be growing out of it! No prob, Liz! But you actuallly did reply to this thread on the first page. And I think you're right about him growing out of it. He's not doing it nearly as often these days.

That's mostly what Chicken does when I wrap him in a paper towel - squirming. Sometimes he likes to tear off a piece, chew on it for awhile, then let it drop on the floor. He's fine with a regular towel, though. Anyway, I'm considering letting his flight feathers grow out, so a flight suit might be in his future!

Does Jasper put up a fuss when you try to get him in the flight suit, Liz? I know Chicken would hehe. He gets ornery when I simply wrap him in a soft towel after his bath!

Hey all,
My wife and I will be adopting a kitten that I helped rescue, and I was wondering if you those of you that own other pets in addition to your birds have any advice for keeping things harmonious. Obviously, I'm concerned for my conure's safety, and I'm debating on letting his flight feathers grow out just so he flies somewhere high instead of onto the carpet when something scares him.
I also hear that a squirt gun works well when trying to teach a cat to stay away from a bird. We'll also be trimming the cat's claws often, because I know the claws and teeth of a feline carry some sort of deadly enzyme that can be fatal for birds.
Any other tips or suggestions?
My wife had a cat that got along just great with my conure, but the cat was old and very mellow. I know young cats can be a different story, but I'm hoping that with lots of work and supervision, it won't be a problem.
