Hi Everyone Harry is coming on leaps & bounds. His flying skills are improving, he can stear and has made it several feet into the air. On a good day he can now fly from the arm of the chair to the cage bless him. Its doing him good as well, in June Harry weighed in at 84 grams! at the end of October he weighs 80 grams. I should say he is twice the size of the other birds, but still has a big belly on him. He is much happier in himself and is a different bird in the cage, he's gone from the quiet one to just as loud and boisterious as the others. Best of all is Minty, he's cheered up at last. He's been so sad and depressed since Sky died in June but in the last week he's finished his moult, looks gorgeos and his cere is blue again I'm so glad he's happy again, its been heart breaking watching him being sad and not being able to help. Hugs Billie

Hi Sounds like you are doing great. These things take time, unless your budgie was very young or hand reared then it will take a while for him to get to trust you. Move slowly and quietly, offer favorite treats and in time he will learn to associate you with nice things happening. You say he likes you singing, you could also try reading out loud next to the cage so he gets used to your voice more. Talk to him when you feed him and clean the cage. Bribes work well, find out what food he likes and use that to encourage him to come towards you, or on to your finger to get the treat. My lot will do anything for millet but to avoid over feeding food that will make him fat go for fruit or veg if he has faves. I'm in the process of getting two of my birds used to coming out of the cage. Step 1: Was to encourage them to fly onto my open hand which had seed on it. Step 2: Once they are happy with that I moved on to lowering my hand to near the door. Step 3: Once they were happy on my hand and that the hand would move slowly I now slowly move my hand just outside the door. We are on step 3 and they will stay on my hand but look around a bit. But they are close enough to the cage, that they can fly back in at will. Time and love is all it takes, don't move to fast, if something happens that freaks out your bird and you have to go back to the beginning and start again, its ok. Its just they are sometimes timid and it takes the time it takes. Not all birds and into a lot of handling. If your bird was past first moult when you got him, it will take far longer than if he was a few weeks old. My late Taz was so scared he would bat around the cage if anyone went near him. After many years of sitting talking to him, not looking at him as I spoke he learnt I wasn't a threat and in the end would eat from my hand. You just got to take them as individuals and go at their pace. Hope that helps, good luck with your bird. Billie

Hi Sarah Max sounds amazing would love to see pictures/video of your birds sometime. You are doing a brillient job with your birds, Max is so lucky to have found you, he couldn't wish for a better home. It soo good to hear how much you love and care for him and that you want to keep him forever. Lucky Max. I hate it when people mistreat birds through ignorance . I have a lot of respect for anyone who rescues and cares for birds in trouble. You are a wonderful person Best wishes Billie

Hi All Just to let you know Harry is still having flying lessons, his flying is improving but his landings need a lot of work DOH! Tiny, Minty and Harry are moulting at the moment so I'm letting them rest up and grow in their new feathers. Hugs Billie

Hi Sarah This is a similar one to mine www.birdscomfort.com/flight_bird_cage.htmlThe personal issue I have is with any cage more designed for its asthetic appeal, than for the birds it will house. I'm sure I've read that small birds like to feel secure so prefer cages with straight sides, place the cage against a wall so the birds know they have one side 'safe from preditors'. The round cage also means the only flight the birds would get is from the ground up! Most birds prefer the option of some across flight in the cages. Other wise they would have to fly like helicopters I have had five budgies in mine and they are happy as larry careful positioning of any perches gives them lots of flying room. Let me know if you would like to see a picture of my cage and I'll find one for you. This cage is super easy to clean too Good luck for your search Billie

WOW that's a dream bird alright! What a little stunner, me love tooo Gili was showing his best side to the camera 'Look at my lovely wings mum' Minty often sits with his wings open and gets the nick name 'Angel Wings' Lovely birdie though, at least he chose sensible perches, Miny's first attempt was a picture frame! Well after letting Harry feed him yesterday Tiny was sick last night. (he does that quite often though) He's still buddy buddy with Harry but not quite so much now Its a bit of a dilema, if we get a girl budgie they might all compete for her and she'd be constantly persued If I get a boy the singing competitions will get even louder and DH isn't happy with the decibels this lot produce as it is. They are in a big cage indoors and they chatter so loud it makes your ears ring. I love my birds and hate to see one sad.. but I love my man too! Billie

Hi All Well Tiny seems to be with Harry Poor little Minty, he gets shoved asside by both of them Tiny keeps following Harry around. Minty keeps following Tiny around but doesn't get a look in. Whenever Minty tries to chat up Tiny, Harry just flies between them so Minty gets shoved asside Harry keeps looking very pleased with himself. Tiny has a few times snuggled up to Minty, but Harry gets boisterous. Poor Miny, I'm worried about him constantly trying to feed things. He has done this ever since Sky died. He goes to the seed pot, picks up a single seed and rolls it around in his beak, flying from swing to tree trying to feed the swing or tree. Its soo sad to see. If he's been doing this since June do you think he'll stop soon, or is it a habit to worry about. I guess he must eat sometimes or he would have starved by now. He's quite timid, poor little Minty. Any thoughts? Billie
