Poor Orange, and poor poorley Puku, hope she's feeling better soon. Is it true that broccoli can reduce calcium intake, ooh my budgies and canary can't get enough of it. Does the same apply to them or is it just with Kaks.
Good luck Orange, hope it all works out for you, I've only just found this thread.

I've had great sucess with the Java wood perches that Pets at Home and other sell. As longs as your cage wire is strong enough to take a larger piece it would easily take teil type weights. The perches bolt to the cage on a wing nut arrangement. They sell various sizes and my birds love it. Each time they land they have a choice of various branch thicknesses to choose from so great foot exercise. The birds spend more time on this than the dowel style perches that are also on offer.
Thanks for the cleaning tips for the natural wood I was given a few small Eucalyptus branches from my mother in law and was wondering how to make sure they were germ free. Too big to fit in the microwave though any other suggestions. All my gang love to chew so I don't suppose the bark would last long anyway.

Are we all telepathic here or what , I was looking at this just a week ago (before my computer got poorly). Luckily my mother in law has a tree in her garden and has saved some of the cutting for me to use as perches in my cages. My one concern is how to make sure its clean enough to use, as I know wild birds carry many diseases and my birds are still very young. Any thoughts.

Hi Everyone I didn't fly south for the winter, I'm still here I have been neglecting my budgie buddies on here for too long so firstly I just wanna say I'm really sorry for going awol Well here's the catch up news on the Blue Team; Tiny has settled well and chats up anyone who will listen. He is still a star with him Mum (me) and will step up and play catch with the toys with me. I pass him the toy he throws it I pick it up give it to him and on it goes ;D Sky has had a tough year, after several trips to the vet to try to solve her scratching I think (fingers crossed) that it has pretty much gone. Now though she is costing me a fortune in vet bills to have claws trimmed every 8 weeks and Since just befre Christmas her beak grew wild and now has to be trimmed every 4 weeks! I don't understand why, it has been fine till then and she is only coming up to 2 years old. I wonder if it has been caused by the ivermec treatment. Our canary (Tilley) developed feather cysts after Ivermec treatments so I'm very wary of it. Minty is gorgeous as ever still chews the tails of anyone not paying attention Tiny is in love with him and Sky and will follow Minty anywhere. Minty's favourite trick is to grab a passing tail in his beak pass it to his foot then GENTLY preen the tail. The preenie has never appreciated this attention yet but Minty is a tryer. he still is a tame star and also loves catch and steps up. Harry, bless Harry he is still a wimp and a lard butt but I love him even if he does chew me. He will step up and often needs rescuing if he has crashlanded on the floor of the cage. He does get a bit picked on but since it is his tail that Minty often 'preens' he will often grab Minty's tail and give it a good yank if Mint is sitting above him waving his tail in Harry's face Kingfisher Blue is becoming a little less grouchy, she will nibble my finger but still won't step up but she will take the toy from me and throw it and she will take food from me so The boys have decided it is spring and are trying to out sing each other. They are after the girls who sometimes play and sometimes don't which is hysterical to watch. That's all their news, a belated Happy Christmas/Yule and wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Lots a luv Billie xxx
