Well I just did a test on Puku and found that the blue tac comes off easily and the sellotape can be a bit tricky.... so I tried some of those butterfly strips...you know the ones docs put on cuts instead of stitching them up and they work a treat!! Try some of those. hahahaha!!

Those pics are cute and a half...specially the last one! I know what you mean about not needing a tv... not that I watch a huge amount but I find myself missing even my favourite programmes because I am so busy watching Puku getting up to her antics that I completely forget!!! Gotta love 'em! #heart# #heart# #heart#

The kak breeders on the kak site have been going on recently about not adding calcium to their water or food but to just make sure they have some available, because they can get ill from overdosing too..... so now I don't know what to do! : ( I just want her to be better.

I don't put any calcium into their food usually so she will only get it if she goes to eat it herself, and they usually know how much they need don't they? Which is why I am bit past knowing why its happened! This morning she seemed quite a bit more perky so I brought her out for communal bath and feeding time -they always have a bath and food available of course but I bring the bath and a dish of seed out every morning and I sit on the floor with them while they eat, bathe and preen together- and she really enjoyed it but was a bit tired by the end of it, so she is back on her own now.

Thanks Donna. Today she seems a tiny bit better, she is gripping a little with her feet now. Although I don't think she is much enjoying the time away from her boys. She is in the same room so she can hear them but shes not talking back : (

Thanks for the advice. I have covered 3 sides of the cage (how on earth did you know that Lin?) and put a water bottle in its cover wrapped in a towel inside it takes up a lot of the cage but she has plenty of room to move off it if she wants to. The cage wouldn't sit on the bottle very well with wobbling about or being tilted to one side which Puku didn't like at all. I have also put another hotty botty outside the cage along the edge. She has been all warm and toasty for a few hours now and she seems to have perked up a bit. She has been nibbling on the cuttlefish quite a bit recently, she is the only one of my birds that bothers with it at all! I have also gone and got that Avimix stuff that Ellen recommended (Thank you Ellen so much) and as we speak she is eating the food that I have mixed it in with. The kaks don't eat egg for some reason, I occasionally do a boiled egg for them and crush it up with the shell still on and the kaks ignore it, even when I try and mix it with any of their food they pick around it... the tiels like it though. Anyway, we'll have to see how she goes. I feel better about it now that she seems to have perked up... this morning she just looked awful.

Hi, you have probably all read about Puku not being herself recently. Yesterday I thought that she seemed much brighter but this morning she has gone back again. She is sitting at the bottom of the cage and sitting on the whole of the bottom of her leg... up to her elbow (I call it an elbow coz of the way it bends but I spose its a knee really) and looking awful again. I took her to the vet and he said that he thinks she either has calcium deficiency or some weird muscle thing that apparantly happens to hen kaks (not all but its supposedly quite common) when they get to breeding age (she is just over 6 months old). He suggested that I put her in a small heated hospital cage with a calcium block and no perches but I don't have one. I have a small budgie cage that I can use but how can I heat it? Since coming home, I have looked up on kakariki.net and they basically say the same thing as the vet... (lol wonder if he is a member!! or quickly looked it up before I arrived!!!) to be honest, I don't really have a lot of faith in this vet, he just didn't give me any detailed information or in fact give her any treatment just told me what to do but surely there is something else I can do?? I am so worried about her... I don't understand how she could have clacium deficiency as she gets grit with oyster shell in and stuff which says on the packet 'calcium enriched' she also has a calcium block in her cage, a cuttle fish and she gets curly kale which is a good source of calcium. The only thing I can think of is the brocolli... I have read before that it can hinder calcium absorption and so I don't feed it very often but the thing is that she loves it and when I feed it to all three kaks she goes along and eats all of it as fast as she can before the thers get any. so maybe that has caused it. Or maybe like the vet says its just because of her age. For now she is in the small cage nearish to my fire (not too hot don't worry) to keep her warm but I wondered if anyone else had any better ideas? Sorry for rambling on, I am just so worried!
