Hi All One of my budgies Sky had a fall in the cage this afternoon, it looks like she had an egg inside her. Which would have broken when she fell to the floor. I thought she had, had a stroke, but she could hold her head up. I held her in my hands to keep her warm and she snuggled. DH brought in a traveling cage, we put her in an open box in the bottom. I half wrapped her in a piece of towel so she wouldn't chill. We rushed her to the vet but she died on the way there. I'm in pieces, but at least I had time to hold her and talked to her all the way to the vets so she wasn't alone. This is my beautiful girl in better times I've got a nice one of her snuggled up to Minty her brother (mate). but got to get it online. Billie

Hi All I haven't forgotten you, honest. Its all a bit quiet on the exercise front. The whole flock is moulting and feeling sorry for themselves. They are all spiky heads just now and try to hide if I go near the cage. So till they are fully feathered and looking happier I am letting them rest and grow their new feathers. Do your birds get embarrased when they moult? Billie

Hi All Now I know the picture at the bottom of my posts is of when my feathered family were babies...but I've noticed in the last few months Miny's (male) cere has changed from bright blue to dark brown Here he is as he looks now Is it because he's 'grown up' and is all flirty with everyone? But Harry and Tiny will feed anyone who will stand still and let them and their cere's haven't changed colour. I thought it was a perch maybe leaving a stain on him but when I bathed his cere a couple of months back before it got this dark it didn't change anything. Also they all rub their faces on the perch and the others aren't having this problem??? Any ideas, what is going on with him? He is well in himself, he's alway hot and often holds his wings open. If he steps up his feet are really hot, but that has been the way since I first got him and what earnt him his nickname of 'Angel Wings'. BTW Don't worry about his pink head, he's been at the cuttlefish and it was under the iodine block so he ends up with a pink flush on his feathers, cute or what hehehe Thanks Billie

I left the cage door open today while Harry was out, so he had somewhere near the cage to perch. He is too 'challenged/special' to understand how to get back in and sat there. Oly when he climbed onto the cage and Tiny bit his feet did he fly, to the sofa, then back to the cage. Less than 2 feet!
Sky and Tiny investigated this new gap in the cage (open door) and refused to cross it. hehehe
Bless

Oh Sarah He's gorgeous congratulations. Its soo good that he will have a loving caring home with someone who understands how much time and care these intelligent birds need. Its great that his last family can still visit. Well done, Billie

Hi All Well Harry did come out today but it took an encouraging 'shove' from DH to get him to budge off the roof of the cage He flew over to the arm of my chair looked at me for a bit then flew over to the sofa He stepped up but flew at the bars of the cage just above the cage door DOH After a stubborn wait he did step on my finger again to get back into the cage. Tiny refused all offers to come out of the cage Hugs Billie

Hi Karen The buddie budgie idea is working out well. Apart from the fact that they both play hard to get out of the cage...and tricky to get back in. Tiny is better as 'going back in' than Harry. Bless em, so enjoying this extra time with my feathered buds Billie

Hi Liz Thanks for a great newsletter and for the mention of Harry Bless him, he's had a few days off and I'm trying to help him over his fear of my hand. Especially as he goes on strike and just sits there when I get him out now. You can take a bird out of the cage but you can make him fly! Hugs Billie

Hi All
Well on todays flight, Harry managed to swerve! Landed, looked confused fluttered and waddled around a bit but generally on strike. Gave up and put him back in the cage.
His confidence in the cage is much improved though, rather than moping around he keeps preening and is even chatting up Sky! Previously he would have kept a low profile around Sky who has tended to push him around in the past.
Don't think Harry is going to get anywhere with Sky, she's flirting between Minty and Tiny depending on 'Who's asking' but it is nice to see Harry happier in himself and looks like he is enjoying life more now.
Hugs

Hi Liz
It is very encouraging to see how fast Harry is improving. He flys from the floor of the cage up to a perch now, not every time but at least his first thought isn't to look around to see if I notice and go rescue him or to climb up.
He is getting much more energetic in the cage too, to the extent that he is pushing Minty around a bit which isn't so good. Keeping an eye on that.
I adore Tiny he always looks so angelic, even when he's being cheekie. He gets really loud when the TV is on, DH gets cross and shushes them. Tiny refuses to be quiet and will gabber under his breath till hubbies back is turned then continue at full belt hehehehe
Hugs

Hi What about Mint leaves? Can they have bamboo wood or only the leaves? There are many kinds of bamboo how do I find out which one is safe? Thanks Billie
