Sal ...John...Karen....Lin....anyone
Mummy Sugar has started to attack the oldest two babies today. Is this normal. The oldest is eating bits and started to rummage around on the floor, so i think they may need separating just in case. Im sure they will be fine now without mum and dad. Both are been sitting in a tuppaware bowl, enjoying some millet at the moment.
do they get this nasty, it has not been that long since these two have been out the nest. She seems okay with the two that are, although they are trying to venture out now.

I am glad that Scullys test came back negative Donna, although I am sure you are keen to get a diagnosis of some kind so that you can start treatment. Looking forward to seeing these pics when you get round to it : )

I haven't had kak babies, but I'm sure this is not unusual Scully. Seperate them, keep an eye on their crops, and maybe top them up a bit yourself if you need to, at least until someone who knows comes on

Since I haven't had any babes yet I'm not sure. What I have read though is that the male can attack the babies just out of the nest especially as they usually start a second nest just prior to the babies fledging. I've read the way to prevent a second clutch is to remove the female & the male will complete the raising.

Well i put them both in a cage last night, as i tried putting them back in, but she was not having any of it. Im going to try and separate one of my big cages today. I did try to give them a feed last night, but they did not really take to it. They have been eating quite well.Even nibblng on the bit of celery i put in.
Sugar seems fine with the two youngest. I may try your idea today Karen, and see if Spice looks after them
thanks both

Karen , ive done what you suggested. So far so good. Ill keep an eye on things today, and Spice should feed the little ones, as he does anyway. Poor Sug...her nasty Mummy taking her away from her babies, and her man

sorry scully i only just caught up with you. from what you described (with sugar still looking after the little ones)its quite normal, it means the parents think that the babies are old/grown enough to fledge, once they are out the nest and in the cage the bullying should stop. if it doensnt then they will need to be seperated properly. if she had started to bully all of them (even the little ones) then something else could be the cause, but i think that they are just being good parents and telling them enough is enough and its time to feed yourself. Kiki and Kiwi have done this with a couple of their "lazy" chicks aswell and once the chicks made an effort to fend for themselves, no more bullying was to be seen. hope this helps and sorry im late
