The visiting IRN you had a picture of is beautiful! Glad you had a good camping trip! Thank you for all the information about the Tink harnesses. I am looking into that. However, I just want to be clear... -I paid less than $50 US dollars for three flight suits, a lanyard, and shipping. -The flight suits come in many different sizes, and and can be hand sewn in minutes to custom fit. -Jasper's flight suit is light enough that he can fly long distances to me with it on, even though his wings are clipped. (The wing clipping is temporary, by the way, I'm letting it grow out from the mild clip the breeder used) -The flight suit is comfortable enough that Jasper often falls asleep in it! -The optional lanyard for the flight suit not only keeps Jasper from flying into trouble if gets spooked, but keep my house clean. He can be with me for 4 hours straight while wearing the flightsuit, with no poo on me, my furniture, or, most importantly, on his vent, so no danger of infection. That said, I am open to other options. I just wanted to make sure that we both had the same thing in mind when talking about flight suits. I don't mean for a minute to undermine what you have done for your birds... it is very clear just how much you care for them, and you've given me a lot to think about.

Thanks Sal and Billie! I had a bit of a shock when I first posted it... with the new forum layout (skinner, longer posts) the newsletter looked huge! Billie, I'm following Harry's story with interest! ;D

Guess the birds will do what the birds want to do... Far be it from us humans to tell them what they ought to be doing! Glad to hear the flights are improving though!

Jasper was raised with a family who all played the piano very well... but he screeches when I play piano. Not sure if he's over excited or just angry at my lack of talent, but he does seem to prefer quiet cello music. When I fiddle he gets pretty riled up... I learned the hard way not to play any videos of other parrots "talking" while he was within earshot. He practically blew his lid, screeching and trying to attack things. I'm thinking he probably shouldn't have a "birdie friend"...

What a character! Birds pick up the oddest things to say! He's a lovely boy, and I'm so glad he's got a home now where he can stay forever and be loved! He's so lucky to have you.

Hello all! Hope you are all doing well!
Welcome to our new members who joined in April: cla1969, flyingzg, foxxfire, harrythreetwoone, ib42, kenjygon, madman, Margaret, nasirmn, thedalesman, and westlake3120.
Happy Birthday wishes to: lady, wildwings, marzipan, Hanlou, flyingzg, stuart65, aeonflight, darlenepachios, coocoolady, debra, ronadevilas, erik, ~Melissa~, livingdeadgirl, aurora, jasmineandme, debree420, Gilbert, mybirdpix, nasiramn, daveday, Tahoma, tenille, mel, silvercloud, and twizle.
There are some interesting bird holidays coming up May which you may not know about… for example, did you know that May is both Duckling and Egg Month? May 1st was Mother Goose Day, and May 14th is Dance like a Chicken Day. Bird related it may be, but I think I'll skip that last holiday…
Some new FID (furry and feathered kid) additions from this month: -Tel found a nice budgie breeder and got three lovely budgies named Smithy, Gwen, and Dave! -Blittlered9 brought home a young goffin cockatoo named Buttercup! -Tel became the lucky owner of an absolutely adorable young pup! -Sal was able to give two sweet not-so-little dumbo rats a new home! -Jasmineandme has been busy… she has two new horses (Pepper and Marshmallow) as well as a breeding pair of green cheek conures! -Twizle has two new sun conures!
Over in the budgie section, Billie's been trying out a new "exercise program" for one of her "big boy" budgies, Harry! The thread "Harry's Big Adventure" is keeping track of the progress, and so far, there is lots of good news! Good luck to you, Harry and Billie.
Sarah's rescued kakarikis, Jester and Bubbles, are doing well and they have several eggs in the nest box. The eggs should have hatched/be hatching right now, so fingers are crossed that all goes well!
If you aren't already reading the "hi from Tinkerbell and Yingshiong" thread in the Welcome section, I suggest it! Member Shanlung posts some very interesting updates. Shanlung has a wonderful bond with his birds and cats and I have learned many things from what he shares.
Congratulations are in order to: -Canuck, for being awarded the Member of the Month Award! Congratulations, you deserve it! -Battybirdie and cockatiel George, for being awarded the Bird of the Month Award! Congratulations to an excellent photographer and a lovely bird!
Just as something to keep in mind: in the member section, Sal has a thread about a coming event she will be participating in: the Race for Life. It is a fundraiser for breast cancer research. If you would like to sponsor her team, she has posted a link in the thread. Please keep her team in your thoughts as they participate on June 21st!
To finish on an exciting note, you may have noticed that Bird Crazy has gotten a new look! Thank you to all the staff that helped to bring this about; the boards are looking wonderful. Among the additions are: new colors, new staff icons, and several special areas off of the Homepage, birdcrazy.co.uk : a Memorial for those special pets in our lives who have moved on, a Guestbook for guests and members to share their comments on the site and leave messages for other guests, a "Fun" page with games to play, such as Hangman and Rock, Paper, Scissors, and a Helpdesk just incase you are having problems with the site.
If you have any questions about how to use one of the new features, Sal has posted a thread with some explanations of the Guestbook and the Helpdesk in the "About Bird Crazy" section of the Guest Nest. (Top of the main board page) If you still can't figure something out, let us know!
That is it for this newsletter… see you around the boards!
-Liz

Juli, madrone branches should be fine with the bark on, and I don't believe whether or not the wood is green matters. I did have a bit of a search online and I didn't see any warnings about it. I would stay away from the leaves, if in doubt, though. Billie, I really don't know about mint, I couldn't find any info on it. As for bamboo, supposedly the Arundinaria species are ok. Wood or leaves, I don't know if it matters. Since the plant is listed as safe, I would assume either would be fine, but with so many different kinds of plants, it's hard to find info for everything. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hmmm. That's a really tough question. As far as monetary value, I really don't know, as that can vary depending on where you live, how old the greys are, etc etc. If it was me, I'd make sure I knew exactly what I was getting. Make sure the greys are healthy. If you're getting them as pets, are they used to being handled, etc. Bottom line, find out as much about the birds as you possibly can. If you have any doubts at all, don't do it!

Well guys, Jasper and I are getting along well... He seems to have finally hit the beaky stage in the past couple of weeks and can be quite nippy when he's not in a good mood, but we had a wonderful snuggle last night while watching a movie, so I was well reassured that he still loves me, which is also supported by the fact that: He is making it a habit to "feed" me. This really wouldn't be bad if he didn't follow this up by shaking his head wildly... I had him on my desk while I was writing something and stopped watching him for a second... the next thing I knew he had food all over my keyboard! Jazz, that's really sweet of you, but... keep your dinner to yourself, please! I was a bit concerned about the regurgitating, but he only does it when he's with me and is in a hyper mood, and shows no signs of ill health, so I don't think it is anything to worry about. I've got some fun pictures of him in his "fancy clothes" aka flightsuit that I'll try to post sometime...

You've got such a neat setup for taking your birds out with you! Just out of curiousity, have you heard of flightsuits? I use them with my conure, Jasper, and I'm very happy with them. I had a similar, less serious situation as you, with Riamfada attacking your wife. Jasper will step up for anyone usually, but the other day he decided that there was no way he was going to let anyone but me stroke him, and shrieked and flew away from anyone who tried... hopefully he doesn't get to the biting stage. Jasper is in the post-weaning "mouthy" stage right now anyway, so we're both getting lots of practice with the "gentle" command...

TINY! YOU GREW UP! What a cutie! Glad to hear Harry is getting stronger! It must be so encouraging to see him getting more energetic... even if you do have to work harder to get him back in the cage!

oh my goodness! I was scared the whole time thinking the too would take a piece out of the poor cat. #shocked# Sorry, I know I shouldn't be laughing, but the whole time I was watching the video I couldn't decided whether I was more worried about the cat or the bird!

Way to go Harry for working out! So what if ya hit a few walls along the way... keep it up! Billie, I use the "hand over shoulders" thing too... it comes in handy when you've got a conure who just can't wait to go "exploring".
