I like that idea! It could be a sub-board.
I mean, I would like that if I were getting a new bird.

I agree completely with Budgiebuddy. I didn't do enough looking around before I got Juniper, and got him from a store. Also, some say they handfeed, but are really just line feeding them. Maybe find a bird society or website for your area, and ask if they recommend any specific breeders.

tinypic.com is also a good one if you don't want to make an account.

Not to be rude or anything, but the last post in this topic was almost a year ago.

I always never really invaded Juniper's area. He gets really territorial when I go in his cage to clean water or to change a toy out. I stood very far back and kind of did my own thing. It took a while. I was probably sitting for maybe 45 minutes, so I would recommend bringing an ipod, or a book to read. Eventually Juniper's curiosity got the best of him and he came out. Now when he came out I didn't rush up really fast and get all over him, I kind of sat back and kept doing my own little thing. He crept closer, and closer, and eventually I moved a bit. I didn't go fast, just slow and kind of eased into his space. Then I finished doing whatever I was doing closer to him. If I was a predetor I would have already tried to pounce, so Juniper cautiosly crept closer. I slowly moved, and he got scared.
It took hi9m maybe, 5 or 6 tries of this before he finally decided to jemp on my finger. It's not fast, but it worked for me.

I just love that yellow color! Of course it's not as pretty as my little Junie's was. ;D

He's like one of those giant bunny stuffed animals they give out at carnival games.
How much does he weigh?

I think there might be a such thing of taking a bird out too much also. Occasionally I would have Juniper out for too long and he'd start itching to get back in the cage and ignore me until I did.
The cockatiel at the pet store seemed keen to sit on my shoulder for a while. I herd from someone that cockatiels are one of the only birds that she will allow on her shoulder because other birds are attracted to shiny things, and her glasses and eyes are shiny.

That might have been a white-bellied caique I think. That's cheaper than the ones i've seen around. When I fist saw the $1000 price I was shocked. ( would be the perfect emoticon for that is the tomato wasn't there)

Well, i'm not a tiel owner, but hopefully a future one. I do know a bit about them though from my research. It's true, they are one of the easier birds to care for. They aren't terribly loud and messy. Be mindful though that they do like love and attention daily. When you get a bord that's more sociable (like a tiel), they're gonna need more time out of the cage than say... a parakeet. Of course there are those occasional ones that will be louder than the rest, and ones that maybe don't want to be played with as much. That all depends on the bird. Maybe get one that's a bit older and ask the breeder the personality of the tiel.
If I were you I would study up a bit on bird body language. That was one of the problems with Juniper, is that I couldn't tell what he wanted, and what this or that meant.
All in all, I think a tiel would be a great pet. Good luck!

Right now it's a maybe from my mom. She says she thinks having 2 birds in the house right now would be too much.
I've been looking for places to put Juniper all summer, when we think we found the reason he's been acting this way. He's fully flighted. Everybody I talked to said that that causes a personality change in birds because they know that they can get away and don't need you. I got his wings clipped Tuesday, and i've already seen a personality change! He's been a little calmer when I stick my hand in, and lets me get closer to him now.
A girl in my Sunday School class at church made a very amazing statement. The leader asked how God tells us what he wants us to do, and this girl said that if God wants you to do something, all of the doors will open and there will be nothing stopping you from doing it. If God doesn't want you to do it, a lot of road blocks will come up in your way. Still God lets you do whichever one, it just won't be the best option. I thought this statement seems like Juniper's situation. We tried almost every animal shelter/ bird sanctuary/ nursing home/ anything else that will gtake birds and they all either wanted sine ridiculously high fee, or they idn't take parakeets, or they were full. It seems like a bunch of road blocks have come up. Since Juniper has had a change in Personality, maybe I was supposed to stick with him for a while longer.
The only problem is persuading my mom that I can have 2 birds. ;D

Well, I went to a pet store looking for cockatiels. There's a bird/aquarium place near my house that hyand feeds a lot of their birds. I got to take out this one cockatiel. It jumped right on my hand, and then to my arm. My family got to pet it. It then jumped on my shoulder! It started trying to peck at my ear. It was so cute! I let it stand there for 5 minutes or so. It let me pet it, and pick it up. I was originally going to get my cockatiel in two weeks or so. I'm going to try and see if I can get that exact one.
