I used them in my aviaries for years (worn out now & haven't got one atm) and all the birds loved it! We'd be entertained as we had a table next to the aviary and when one would run on the inside we'd see the "budgie waddle" and omg it was hillarious!

I feed my budgies a base diet of budgies seed & into that I mix canary and sunflower seeds, also fine shell grit is mixed through the seed. Pumpkin seeds are largely ignored. They prefer vegetables to fruit. However they will eat a little apple when they see the parrots eating it. I've tried watermelon, rockmelon, strawberries, grapes and oranges but they have all been ignored after the initial lick. Their favourite vegetables are carrot and celery. I also supply silverbeet & spinach (when available). Fresh corn on the cob is also a seasonal favourite of most - some won't even consider touching it. I offer other vegetables when available.

Non-mutation is the wild type, the original - before people came along and selectively bred new colour mutations into them (my favourite).

Looks like a wonderful time you enjoyed in Amsterdam. I have never travelled further out to sea than Tangalooma Resort off Brisbane and am in awe of the places you have been and the cultures you have seen. May your feet always find their way home.

cold shower! Maybe it's time to even the playing field? Y'know what they say - two's company, three's a crowd. Four would give everyone a partner to kiss - unless they all want the new one as a friend!

Unfortunately it is a female ecky thing Deb. Females once they hit sexual maturity tend to turn aggressive. Not every female will - some small percentage stay their loving selves. There isn't anything that you can really do I'm afraid. On an Australian forum there are a few ecky breeders. One of the staff has a handraised ecky female who was loving until maturity and now tries to rip her to shreds. The handraised male is still his lovable self but the female gets nasty now. I don't think she gets nasty at her husband though - just her. Maybe you could try clipping her wings, although I don't know if that will help. Great to see you Debra!

Yes that's right, my Bourke collection is growing. Picked up a pretty little non mutation male on Saturday - was supposed to be female but pretty males never go astray either. Haven't gotten a picture yet as have been too lazy to download the camera but will try tonight.

Enlarged vent can mean enlarged heart, kidney or liver issues can also cause an enlarged vent making it look like it's in breeding condition. Is your friend 100% positive it is a hen? Reason I ask is while researching this problem I've come across information that suggests it is the male that gets a red and swollen vent area. See here: canarytales.blogspot.com/2009/03/is-your-cock-ready-for-pairing.htmlI also found this site to be remarkably informative and I have to say I have learnt much from this site: www.robirda.com/flock133.htmlPlease keep us informed on what happens with the little bird. oh and Welcome to Bird Crazy!

YAY Yes I second that! Well done to everyone for making this forum the well respected place that it is. I have noticed we are creeping back up with the voting boards too so don't forget to keep voting.
