Thanks everyone I had put the budgies back in their cage but mum thought she was helping by letting them out for awhile, but she just forgot when she went for her nap to shut the doors which is very unusual for her as it is like Fort Knox here with her, she locks all doors and windows even during the day if I'm outside in the yard. It dates back to her past during the war in Germany and Russia, she doesn't trust anyone hence "Fort Knox"

#cry# Hi everyone No more walking budgies I would love to report that they r happily flying everywhere but the sad truth is that while I was at the Dentist my Mum-in-law who is a darling and was just trying to help left the back door open and they took a long walk unfortunately I was not able to find them in the back yard . I couldn't rant and rave at her as she is 84 years old and just forgot to close the door before she had a nap. So I had a cry and just hope they did survive the outdoors but I don't give them much chance as they were so young. I am just glad I am not one of those people that clip wings to hand raise my precious birds so maybe they will have a fighting chance I can only be positive with my hopes. I have now devised a door gate just for any more walking budgies it is a minature baby gate that folds across the bottom of the door about 12inches high Avril from OZ

Hi Thanks for all your suggestions I think they r just lazy. Their feathers have grown properly they flap their wings and still they walk and climb everywhere. I'm not too fussed about it as My dog who also has the run of the house doesn't bother about them. They r very spoilt as I have a tray of feed out for them under the kitchen table so I'm not really encouraging them to fly. Budgies are a flock bird and they do like to be on the ground in the wild so they r doing what comes naturally. I must say the third one that I had was put in the big aviary and he flies everywhere. I hand raised these two for a couple of friends and I couldn't part with them big sook ;D I am where all my animals r concerned. Avril from Downunder

budgies are grass and seed eaters in their natural habitat. In Australia there were no fruits and vegies as we know today until the settlers arrived over 22o years ago

Orange I will take the heat anytime the winter is not good for my " Arthur and Iris" as all my joints seize up and I can't walk and typing is a pain.
The only thing I really like about winter is the rain as we are in a drought that has lasted for the last 6 or 7 years and our water supplies around the country are not at a very high level, so if I could have the rain without the cold I would be very happy.
